Shop is open today (11/14/2025) - making a loose pattern of being open roughly every other Friday for the past month or two. But I'd still have your hotel or someone else who can speak Japanese call ahead and double check when he'll be open. I purchased a santoku and a petty knife, 28k and 12k yen respectively, cash only. Very kind man, beautiful knives - by far the thing I wanted to bring most back from Japan and I got it!
Oct 17 (Friday) 11am, they're open! Only 1 customer allowed inside at any time (or small group) if you come in a group. The rest has to queue outside.From what I was able to understand with my limited Japanese proficiency chat with the owner, the next time they will be open is on 31st Oct
Nov 7 11am. Just bought a knife from here. He is a very nice and authentic craftsman. Smaller selection than the bigger touristy shops but I didn’t mind. Very good quality and weight in the hand. Bought a nice chefs knife as a gift. 23k yen
素晴らしいです！先代は勲章もとられているとか。
40数年前、立命館大学へのバス通学途中よく車窓よりお店を眺めておりました。ふと、通学風景を思い出したくなりストリートビューでたどって、お店を再発見しました。周囲の風景は全く変わりましたが、お店は変わらずに営業されていて思わず感激しました。お店に立ち寄らせて頂いたことはないですが、一度お尋ねしたいと思います。
先日初めて本格的な包丁を買いました。切れ味がステンレスの包丁とは段違いに違います。初めて切ったとき感動しました。お昼休みの時間帯は閉まっているのかもしれません。
購入して二年経ったのですが💦本当に素晴らしい畳包丁をありがとうございました。
全て自作です。包丁、ハサミ、工具ありました。名前もすぐ彫り込んでいただけます。

Was there today, after Nick's review (thank you!) and bought a petty knife (Aogami Super). The owner is a nice person. He explained everything I wanted to know about the knives. He does not speak english (just a few words), but we managed to understand. Prices are good.
