A really cool experience. You have options to make a kitchen knife usually during the morning and in the afternoon Kunai (with a small extra charge) and ninja throwing stars. It is extremely safe if you are not a braindead. You get all the equipment everything is supervised and ensured that you don’t harm yourself and that you do it correctly. The team is super fun and they explain you everything in detail. Around 3 hours was the experience because of the size of the group. The extra time is that everyone gets the results they were looking For. A really fun and cool activity.
Hands down the best activity I did in all of Japan! I had high expectations, but this went far beyond them. After about a 40-minute bus ride from the center of Kyoto, you arrive at a traditional house where you’re given a ninja uniform and a headband with their logo—and the fun begins. You can choose from three types of shuriken, or a kunai for a small extra fee of ¥3,000. Even though you’re given the basic shape, the process is incredibly hands-on: heating the metal, hammering it into form, sharpening, sanding, and polishing. I felt completely focused and zen the whole time. The guides were incredible—full of energy, super kind, and even helped us film. At the end, they engraved our tools with kanji symbols we got to choose ourselves. Is it a perfect ninja weapon? Probably not. Do I love it? Absolutely. We also got to meet their adorable Shiba named 姫 (Hime), which means “princess” in Japanese—she was the cherry on top of an already amazing experience! It’s not a private experience (our group had ~10 people), but that honestly added to the fun. If you’re thinking about it—just book it. You won’t regret it.
I had the opportunity to forge a knife at Studio Nin in Kyoto – and it was a wonderful experience! The atmosphere was very pleasant: friendly, sociable, and I immediately felt welcome. What impressed me the most was the wide variety of knife types you could forge yourself. Even as a beginner, I felt well supported, which made the process not only educational but also a lot of fun.Overall, it was an unforgettable experience – highly recommended for anyone who wants to enjoy something special in Kyoto!

Hands down one of the best experiences I’ve had so far. As someone who loves a hand made souvenir, this was perfect! Expect a lot of sweat and sore arms, but it was worth it for the end result. The guides were so kind and helpful, explaining the traditional methods of the Japanese sword smith. I will forever cherish this experience and can’t wait to make a kick ass handle when I get back home to my workshop.
