非常愉快的体验！旅馆门口就是公交车站，四人间很舒适，有微波炉、冰箱、咖啡机等设施，店内提供毛巾，也可以购买饮料和洗漱用品，或者租借脚踏车店主十分热情亲切，晚上可以在楼下和其他客人一起喝酒聊天，大家一起拍了合照非常适合喜欢青年旅馆的氛围、希望认识新朋友的人，如果再来下田还会住在这里(*´ω｀*)
Makoto is a wonderful host! Lots of recommendations for things to do in the area and a warm and welcoming space with cosy touches to make you feel at home. We can’t wait to come back and stay again!!
I really enjoyed me stay at Shimoda House, not because it's the newest or most up to date place, but because the host, Makoto is such a friendly, humble and genuine guy. As a solo traveler who doesn't know the language, I don't often get the opportunity to really engage with people other than the necessaries to conduct the business at hand such as checking in or ordering food etc. But his English, while perhaps not perfect, is quite good, and we spent a great deal of time conversing about a number of things like music, culture, hobbies etc, which I thoroughly enjoyed.The place is made more interesting by it's history. He explained how it was a hundred year old tofu factory which he brought and converted into living space, doing most of the work himself. That's no small feat, and I gained a greater appreciation of the place once I knew these things.I hope I have an opportunity to come back this way and will make sure to check in here again!
This place is amazing, best I’ve ever been. The couple who will host you is kind, nice and super open.The first day, we asked the host if he knew about any stand up paddle board rental place for renting very early in the morning and watch the dawn. There was no such a place, but he offered to wake up with us, drive us to the beach with his car, and rent us his double stand up paddle for a very convenient price with respect to any other rental place that would open later.The second day, he had a friend visiting and he invited us to have dinner together, eating the food that his friend cooked, again for a very convenient price.The third day, my girlfriend had a small accident with the bicycle we rented from the accommodation, and he picked us and the bicycles up, and accompanied us to the supermarket to buy food to eat at the house. He also made easier to interact with other travelers in the house, offering to ride us to a restaurant where we had dinner together with other guests.Other than all these positive things, the house is in a very nice location, not far from best shimoda beaches, and facilities in the house are very convenient and clean.Without any doubt one of our best experiences as travelers in Japan so far (and we live in Japan and travel quite a lot).
1泊だけでしたが、本当に最高でした！オーナーのまことさんがとても温かくて、まるで地元の友人のように接してくれて、とてもいい思い出になりました！特に印象的だったのが、テントサウナ。川沿いの落ち着いた空間で入るサウナは格別で、心も体もリフレッシュ✨水風呂も💯またぜひ、遊びに行かせていただきます！☺︎
My husband and I stayed in a private room at 下田ハウス for 1 night in August 2025. It’s a cozy and convenient guesthouse a 10-minute walk from Rendaiji Station, which is well-placed for visiting Kawazu (9 min by train) and Shimoda (3 min by train). The hosts Mako-chan and Haru-san are very welcoming and made our one night there very special.Check-in is from 15:00, although if you will arrive after 19:00 you must arrange with the hosts to ensure it is possible. There are no restaurants or konbini within walking distance, so I recommend grabbing food or groceries before coming to Rendaiji. At the guesthouse there is a microwave, kettle, large shared fridge, toaster oven, plates, cups, cutlery, and you can purchase good coffee (200円) and beer (400円~). Our host, a skilled hobby fisherman, even shared with us some delectable homemade sashimi. It was so good!There are nice shared spaces for eating and hanging out downstairs so it is nice to socialize with other guests. Outside, there is an outdoor bathtub that can be used, as well as a sauna (2000円 for 2h). The shared bathroom has good quality shampoo, conditioner, and bodywash, and our room provided a fluffy microfibre face towel and body towel. You can use the washing machine (200円) and dryer (200円) from 8:00-22:00.Our beds were very comfortable with a nice light blanket for summer sleeping. The house is in a quiet side street of an already very quiet small town, so it’s very calm at night. The AC works well, but it was a bit noisy for sleeping so we turned it off at night and slept well. We really enjoyed staying here and I’d love to come back one day.
What we liked most was the exceptional hospitality and politeness of the hosts! It’s a pity we didn’t have a chance to talk more. They allowed us to leave our luggage before check-in and kindly provided utensils and soy sauce for sashimi.The guesthouse also has everything needed for a comfortable stay. Everything was spotlessly clean, both in the room and in the shared areas. The view from the window was very picturesque! Excellent Wi-Fi. For a reasonable fee, you can do laundry and dry your clothes, rent bicycles, have coffee, or enjoy alcoholic beverages.The nearest station is a 10-minute walk away, and a major train station and the city center are a 35-minute walk away. Walking through such a beautiful and scenic area makes the time fly by! Also, about a 5-minute walk from the guesthouse, there are several hot springs, one of which we visited.Overall, the atmosphere is perfect for relaxation. We would love to stay here again during our next trip to Shimoda.Unfortunately, there was no sugar or cream for coffee—at least not in a visible place—and we didn’t want to bother the hosts unnecessarily.The bed and pillow were not very comfortable, and the air conditioner was quite noisy, which unfortunately did not contribute to a good night’s sleep.It was also a pity that breakfast was no longer available. I had been quite impressed by the reviews and photos of the breakfast from other guests and wanted to order it as well, but this service is currently not provided. We hope that by our next visit breakfast service will be resumed, and we will gladly take advantage of it!

Makoto a redonné vie a une ancienne fabrique de tofu ou il vous accueil comme un proche avec gentillesse et bienveillance, et grâce a lui notre passage a Shimoda restera un temps fort de notre voyage.Le lieu est authentique simple et fonctionnel. Situé a 5mn a pied d'un des plus vieux onsen en bois de la région et a proximité immédiate de Shimoda, plus qu'un hébergement c'est une expérience immersive.Makoto merci infiniment.
