山の根熊野神社横穴墓群の特徴
発掘調査が進んでいない未開の横穴が多い場所です。
山の根の階段を上がると、すぐに墓地へと続く道があります。
手入れが行き届いた二つの墓が山の側に存在しています。
発掘調査のお金が無いため、未開の横穴も多い。
逗子駅の北に山の根と言う地名がある。住宅街であるがそこに小丘陵があり、山の根熊野神社が創建されている。その後背地に６ないしは７基の横穴墓群を見ることが出来る。ただ完全なものは２基ほどしか見ることが出来ない。他は近寄ることも難しいか、殆どが埋まっているのが現状の様だ。７世紀後半から８世紀にかけて築造された物の様だ。ある程度の力を持った家族集団ではないだろうか。７世紀後半は大化の改新後の６４６年に薄葬令が発布されているのでこの様な形になったのではないだろうか・・・うーむ。

Going up the stairs to the right of the temple, you will soon come across two different paths, just use a translator app to follow the one to the grave site. You will see two maintained graves. The path only takes two minutes, but it is kind of steep and slippery when wet. The two tombs are in the side of the mountain, with a third one that's not really maintained next to them. If you go back to follow the other path you will go up the ridge, where you can see one other non-maintained grave and on top, you will have a nice few of zushi. Be careful of spiders tho, especially in summer.
