If you are looking for a genuine, deep-dive experience in Japan, this is the place to go.I had the privilege of taking a private Katana lesson with Master Kuwabara. He is not only a true master with an official samurai license (Tamiya-ryu style) but also incredibly kind and welcoming. Aside from the actual sword techniques in the dojo, I learned a massive amount about samurai history, rules, and etiquette.The best part: They operate on a strict private lesson system. Even as a single customer, you don’t get grouped with strangers; you have the master's full attention to yourself. It is perfectly optimized for tourists who are short on time but still want a serious, high-quality experience.A huge thank you to Master Kuwabara for everything—this was the absolute highlight of my trip! If you want to learn from a real samurai, don't miss this.

Fantastic, fun and cultural experience. Sensei Kuwabara is a delightful teacher and guide. Our group of three were outfitted in samurai clothing and taught how the very basics. We had a great time and did a few photos and video at the end. We do recommend emailing for a reservation.
My first time in Kyoto and I was so fortunate to experience samurai techniques with Kuwabara先生!We went through many different techniques and rules used by different levels of samurai and was able to enjoy a unique experience.Kuwabara先生 is very talented and also an amazing photographer!桑田端先生ありがとうございました。帰りたいです！

Master Kuwabara is amazing. You can feel that he respects his craft, it's not just dressing up and taking pictures. Instead, he explains a bit about the different movements and rituals, tells you the names of the swords and shows a performance of some moves. Then, he will teach some sort routines and take videos and pictures. He knows the perfect poses. And he can speak English. I did the 45 minute version, but I think 90 minute might also be worth it to learn the moves more in depth.I send an email at 3pm and he offered a slot same day at 5. There is a separate email address for same day bookings
