Curtis is great organiser and communicator.We stayed in Indigo house and it is really well stocked and thought out. Also super quiet at end of a culdesac. Prime position.Also suggest you take some of the restaurant recommendations. Lots of bars and restaurants literally round the corner.Highly recommend
We had a fantastic trip at Gion House in Kyoto. Communication was perfect. It felt amazing to be inside a legitimate Japanese house that others have lived in for many years, a more authentic experience. The location could not have been better. Highly recommend!
A fantastic stay! A perfect place to stay for a family. Everything you need has been thought of, and it is very comfortable and beautifully decorated. It is in a gorgeous area of Kyoto, near many interesting sites and restaurants. We wish we could have stayed for longer!
We had an awesome stay at Indigo House Gion. I was really excited to stay in a machiya-style house and this did not disappoint. They thought of everything and the instructions for arrival were easy to follow. I also really appreciated that the office was right around the corner if we needed anything - since some restaurants only speak Japanese or only take reservations by phone, we found this a little difficult and the office was able to help us find a place to eat on our last night. The location was perfect - we loved being in the heart of Gion and everything was so close and convenient. I could have stayed a month! Lastly, I want to say how ideal this location is for a family or a small group. We were 3 generations on this trip and we booked the whole Indigo House - it was perfect for a family group like ours. Thank you to Curtis and the team for making us feel right at home in Old Kyoto!
We were a party of 8. One family of 4 stayed in the upper house and the other family of 4 stayed in the lower house.Our stay at the Indigo House Gion was very special. It made our trip to Kyoto an absolute dream. The interior was expertly designed and original features were preserved. I was so impressed. The shower, bathroom, bedrooms, and beds were all so comfortable. We had a kitchen and washer/ dryer which made our stay feel like we were home. We stayed 5 nights but I could have easily stayed 1 month!!!! The location was SUPREME!The staff and owner of Old Kyoto gave us first class service. They also made us feel at home. I cannot wait to return soon!!!
Beautiful room with clean kitchen and bathroom, right in the heart of Gion, beautiful nearby streets. The host was super helpful, beds were comfortable, everything was clean and we especially enjoyed the Japanese bathroom. We would definitely stay here again when returning to Japan, thank you.
My wife and I stayed here while on our honeymoon in 2024. The house itself is beautiful traditional wood, furnished tastefully, and located in a one of the best neighbourhoods in Kyoto. We highly recommend staying here if you are looking for an aesthetic and comfortable stay in Gion. Old Kyoto guests services (Junko) also helped us arrange bag transfer to our next stay in Osaka.

First time visit to Kyoto and staying at Indigo House was an excellent experience. The traditional style of the home was amazing, the location in Gion was great and it was so quiet and peaceful. We would definitely come back and stay longer (we only had 2 full days in Gion). The entire staff were very helpful and provided excellent guidance and recommendations. Highly recommend!
