A Must-Do — Unforgettable Sushi Class & Dining ExperienceFrom the moment we arrived at 10:00 AM, our 2½‑hour sushi class and dining experience at Omakase Kyoto exceeded every expectation. The chef instruction was immaculate — patient, precise, and deeply knowledgeable — and his assistant (who invited us to call her “Sushi”) delivered warm, attentive hospitality that made us feel truly special. The hands‑on lesson was perfect for beginners and food lovers alike. The chef began with the fundamentals: how to moisten your hands (including the traditional gentle clap to distribute the water) so the rice won’t stick, and how to form rice into the ideal shape — not too tight, not too loose — so each bite spreads perfectly in your mouth. He demonstrated how to season and fold the sushi rice with vinegar and sugar, then gave us a private tutorial so we could try it ourselves. We learned several classic techniques: rolling cucumber maki with nori and spreading rice evenly, wetting and tapping the knife to ensure clean, precise cuts, and how to place fish on rice. The chef provided a variety of toppings and garnishes, and encouraged creativity while reinforcing traditional technique.Beyond the cooking, the personal touches made the experience exceptional. Our chef and his assistant shared stories about their hometown in Akita and even served a delightful local sake from there for us — a lovely way to connect food and heritage. Their passion, humor, and kindness turned a cooking class into an unforgettable cultural exchange. If you visit Kyoto, do not miss this experience. Whether you want to learn authentic sushi technique, taste superb sushi you made with your own hands, or simply enjoy outstanding hospitality, Omakase Kyoto is an absolute must. Five stars, highly recommended!
Anyone coming to Kyoto and looking for a new experience, I highly recommend trying a cooking class and an omakase in Kyoto. It was honestly the best activity of the whole trip.
My partner and I did a sushi making experience we booked on KLOOK. The sushi was delicious and the lesson on making it was easy to remember for recreating our dish. The chef was knowledgeable, answering all of our questions happily and adapting very well to the language barrier. Very happy with our time here! Thank you Kenshiro for having us in your beautiful restaurant!!
My husband and I decided to take this class right before flying into Japan and this is one of the best experiences. Sightseeing is great, but making your own delicious sushi and relaxing in quiet calming setting were exactly what we needed after all the walking.
I love sushi and I sort of make them at home, however while they taste good they never looked right. I decided whilst in Kyoto to take a sushi lesson and I was recommended Omakase Kyoto by Klook. I arrived and was greeted by Kenshro who quickly got me into the groove of rolling rice balls and practicing sushi making and sushi shaping. After a while, he felt I had achieved the level necessary for me to make real sushi. The results are in the picture! I loved the experience and only regret not to have been taught how to make the sushi rice! Maybe next lesson! Thank you Kenshro!
My partner and I came here for the sushi-making and hand rolling class on Klook. Kenshiro warmly welcomed us into his kitchen and gave us an impressive insight into Japanese food culture as a whole. I cannot recommend this experience enough. This will forever be in our memory as one of the best experiences we did in Japan during our two-week holiday! A very special evening for us.
