Great little inn on a charming side street. Excellent food options nearby and 7-eleven across the street. Kyoto thoroughfares and train station are a short walk away, and there are a number of excellent coffee shops nearby. Room was clean and pleasant. The neighborhood is quiet and the staff was very friendly. I would absolutely stay here again.
We had a great stay at Kayo Nijo. We were a bit apprehensive after reading the other reviews, but everything turned out to be fine. We had a very warm welcome and the room room was good: it was clean, modern and has everything you need. Not bothered by any sound at all. It’s a quiet neighborhood, and only a 9 minute walk to the station.
We LOVED this hotel! I’m sorry I didn’t take a lot of pictures of the room, but it was very clean and nice having a little sitting area. I was so scared because I booked it through booking.com and then I saw the reviews on google maps. I can only speak to my family’s experience. We loved this hotel! The WiFi was great. Our room was a nice size, the ac was strong, which is a necessity because our son gets nosebleeds if he gets too warm. There was a nice cafe a house over, the Nijo train station was a literal 5 minute walk. The manga museum was about 15 minutes? Maybe. Prior to there we went to Nijo-Jo castle. Of the three castles we visited, this was the best preserved. You should definitely see the palace in person! The grounds were breathtaking. We also went into the palace but phones and pictures were not allowed. It’s a separate ticket from the entrance ticket, but TOTALLY worth it. And the staff were so kind helping us to book our tickets on the spot. It was so beautiful inside! We also got lucky, the tea house on the grounds was open for guests and a couple was taking their wedding photos, maybe? They were in traditional garb and had a whole team with them. You can also feed the carp for 200 yen. Just make sure to have change, it doesn’t take cash. From th manga museum we went to the Samurai museum, and after we went wandering around the shops. I’m a Chef and we found an amazing knife shop with a kind owner and his children, where I was able to purchase a quality knife for myself and a friend. There’s a 7/11 across the street. There’s a ramen shop a block over, it only takes cash, but you pay a machine, hand your tickets over and they make your meal, please stop by and shop local! The ramen, kaarage, and beer were great! Also, if you’re like me looking to find cool vending machines in the back of nijo station is a ramen vending machine! Try it out! There’s also a grocery store about 2 blocks over. Also, my partner and son do jiu jitsu and there was a gym open to foreigners my partner when to. He had a great time, it was carpe diem bjj Kyoto. We plan to stay here again because the service was amazing and the location was perfect for us. Also, if you are a light sleeper, people mentioned thin walls but I stayed at three different hotels and it wasn’t different from the other two, they offer ear plugs when you first walk in. None of us woke up due to noise, but once you wake up you can hear people walking in and out.

We were very satisfied with our 3 day stay here. We got the 3 bed room and it was so cute and cozy. It had a modern traditional style aesthetic. The futons and blankets were thick and made sleeping very comfortable. I liked that we didn’t need keys or key cards. Every door had a pin pad. It’s close to Nijo Station and there’s a building called Bivi that has a huge food court. There was also a Starbucks there which was nice! There’s a 7-Eleven right next to the hotel and we went there every day. We also used the luggage forwarding service which was a huge plus. The only downside was having to carry big luggages up and down the stairs. We stayed on the third floor and tried to stay quiet but it was hard with heavy suitcases.
