朱鳥の舞日本における抽象彫刻の第一人者である清水九兵衞さん（1922-2006）の作品です。みやこめっせの開館した1996年に制作されました。アルミと鉄パイプで構成された3つのブロックから成り、高さ3.68m、幅13.2m、奥行き7.6mと横に長いフォルムは、当館の建物のフォルムに合わせて設計されました。みやこめっせを設計した建築家 川崎清（1932-2018）は「かねて、岡崎公園は松の緑と平安神宮の赤がテーマ色であることを考え、これを現代化することを考えていた」*と述べています。そこで、当館の正面を飾る彫刻を依頼するなら、赤を使う彫刻家である清水氏だと最初から考えていたそうです。（みやこめっせHPより）清水九兵衞（きよみず きゅうべえ、1922年5月15日 - 2006年7月21日）は彫刻家、陶芸家。日本における抽象彫刻の第一人者である一方、京焼の名家として知られる清水六兵衞（七代）を襲名していた。名は広（廣）、旧姓は塚本。Dance of the Vermilion BirdThis work was created by Shimizu Kyubei (1922-2006), a leading figure in abstract sculpture in Japan. It was created in 1996, the year Miyako Messe opened.It is made up of three blocks of aluminum and iron pipes, and its long horizontal form, measuring 3.68m in height, 13.2m in width, and 7.6m in depth, was designed to match the shape of the museum building.Kiyoshi Kawasaki (1932-2018), the architect who designed Miyako Messe, said, "I had long thought about modernizing Okazaki Park, considering that its theme colors are the green of the pine trees and the red of Heian Shrine."* As such, he had thought from the beginning that if he was going to commission a sculpture to decorate the front of the museum, it should be Shimizu, a sculptor who uses red.(From Miyako Messe website)Kiyomizu Kyubei (May 15, 1922 - July 21, 2006) was a sculptor and ceramic artist. He was a leading figure in abstract sculpture in Japan, and also inherited the name of Shimizu Rokubei (the seventh generation), known as a famous Kyoto ware family. His given name was Hiro (Hiro), and his maiden name was Tsukamoto.
