戦争の悲劇を感じられる場所で、深い感慨があります。
近くにあるフィカスの木が幻想的な雰囲気を醸し出しています。

瀬棚島での戦争犠牲者の慰霊碑島民や兵士の数多くの名前記名されてます😵読谷村や北谷の海岸から上陸したアメリカ軍は南の首里や北の本部方面に進軍して各地での戦争を繰り広げますが日本軍には既に戦う力が殆ど残ってませんでした🥺市民も捕虜になり辱めを受けるより死を選べの教えが有るから色々悲惨な最後を迎えたのかもしれませんね。

Although a sad and sombre place, it is important to visit: the stele for the memory of the victims of war during World War II. Each vertical inscription is the name of a killed resident of Sekoko, a tiny island off Okinawa mainland. I counted more than 230 names. R.I.P.I was reminded of the WW I graves in Flanders, which are of a different dimension of course, but the deaths on Sekoko and on all of Okinawa were as devastating and enormous.After the war, Sekoko was put under the United States Civil Administration of the Ryukyu Islands. Along with the rest of Okinawa, Sekoko was returned to Japan in 1972.The only uplifting feeling around this memorial which I could get, was from the Ficus tree next to the stele with its mighty roots and crown.
