Foreigner visiting family in the area – I am a nerd who loves flowing water.On my last visit to Japan, I saw クラレ取水堰 and later spotted this weir on Google Maps, so I wanted to come and see it on this trip and found it very interesting.I was viewing from the river bank, and it is worth crossing to the western side of 旧県道桜井線 to enjoy the view of the diversion channel outlet, where the water passes through a tunnel under the road and boils out of the gate with impressive power.I find it fascinating that this diverted water from the Asahi River becomes a stream that flows down through the centre of Okayama.There is also a separate channel right next to this one that appears to be fed from another weir further up the river – but that will be an adventure for my next visit to Japan.Until next time, Japan – thank you for the memories (and the nama biru), as always.
