We absolutely loved our stay at Kumano Kodo Komorian Guest House. The entire experience provided by Miko was a true highlight of our trip to Japan. The location is quiet, serene, and immersed in nature, set along a beautiful river and surrounded by mountains. The house is incredibly comfortable, well equipped, and thoughtfully designed. Miko has thought of every detail, with everything clearly labeled and easy to use.Miko herself is a wonderful host: warm, kind, friendly and attentive. We felt as if we had known her for years 😊 She provided the wonderful service of driving us to the trailheads on the Kumano Kodo, shared helpful information about the area, and suggested daily hiking routes, making our stay completely effortless. And her food! We were in awe of the meals she prepared: so many beautiful flavors, all seasonal and perfectly presented. Our only regret is not staying longer. Komorian is a true gem and will always be an incredible memory for us. We wish Miko every success in the world with her amazing guest house.
I rarely if ever send online reviews but on this occasion I have made an exception for an exceptionally first rate experience. My wife and I stayed with Miko (host) at Komorian for three nights while walking the Kumano Kodo. The food was great, the location was wonderful and Miko was delightful. Miko worked very hard to make our stay perfect. I could go on and on but if you are interested in walking the Kumano Kodo this is a superb place to stay, My wife and I highly recommend staying at Komorian.
It was probably the best place we ever stayed at. The house is fabulous, very beautifully designed with great attention to detail. Miko has such impeccable taste and thought of everything you might need during your vacation. We stayed 2 nights and wished we had stayed longer. The location is so beautiful, immersed in nature, close to a river we could swim in on a hot day. The food Miko prepared for us was so beautifully presented and delicious. We walked some parts of the Kumano Kodo and Miko drove us to the trails and picked us up when we finished walking, and even took care of our luggage transfer for the next days of the trip. She is an amazing host and such a nice, kind and funny person. We hope to come back again someday!
Both my wife and myself had decided that we wanted to hike the Nakahechi trail, and after much online searching we found this guest house. What initially interested us was the shuttling service to and from the trail head at the start and end of each day. This service in itself is excellent, no waiting around for buses (which run infrequently) or searching for accommodation at the end of a hike. However Komorian and the host go far beyond this service. The house is stunning, located in an idyllic commune with a river running adjacent to the property. The house was beautifully furnished with great facilities. The meals prepared by Miko were great they are memories that I will always retain.Miko speaks great English and gave us invaluable advice, and information during our stay.We choose the 3 night, 4 day hike option, and thoroughly enjoyed our experience.
Our 3 night stay at Miko's guest house was one of the most memorable parts of our Japan trip. The Komorian guest house is a perfect blend of Japanese tradition with modern comforts. It's situated right next to a river in a very remote area which made it a very peaceful and welcome break from the big city we had just come from.It is immaculately clean and tastefully furnished and decorated. We wanted for nothing as Miko has thought of everything to make her guests feel at home. One of the big advantages of staying in a guest house rather than a hotel is the interaction with the host. Miko speaks perfect English and we learned so much about the local area and Japanese culture from her. That was an unexpected but very valuable aspect of our stay.By far the biggest plus for this guest house was the food. Miko is an excellent cook and served up the most wonderful evening meals and breakfasts. We must have tried over 30 different dishes many of which we'd never heard of or had chance to try without going to a high end restaurant. It was a true taste sensation. This was a 5 star experience and we would strongly recommend it.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my lady, who has shown me incredible kindness and generosity. When my hiking shoes broke unexpectedly, she went out of her way to help me. She spent over an hour driving me to buy a new pair of shoes, ensuring I was well-equipped and safe for my next hike. Her selfless support and willingness to assist me in a time of need truly touched me. It is rare to encounter someone so thoughtful and caring, and I feel extremely fortunate to have her as my lady.Thank you once again for your help. Your kindness will always be remembered.
Staying as Miko’s guest in her Geisha House is an extraordinary experience. It is certainly a highlight of our time on the Kumano Kodo trail. The property is simply beautiful. The food and hospitality is outstanding, with every meal a work of art. The house is cosy, warm, inviting and private. Miko could not do enough for us. She took as to and from the trail head every day which also gave us an extra chance to see more of the area. The long soak in her wooden bathtub at the end of the day was a lovely way to finish a day of walking. We laughed so much with Miko, her smile is infectious, and her attention to every detail of your stay is wonderful to experience. This was a five star experience in a rural area of Japan and it is an experience you will not forget. There is not a single detail that Miko has missed. Our stay in Komorian Geisha House was exceptional value.
Miko is a warm hostess who welcomes her guests in a very stylish former house of a geisha. There are several traditional rooms where you can relax wonderfully and the large living room with its own kitchenette is the perfect place to end the day in peace with a view of the river.Miko is also an excellent cook and spoilt us with local dishes in the evening and for breakfast.Unfortunately we only stayed one night! We felt like we were in 5 star accommodation!
Oh my goodness! The Komorian is a little slice of heaven! Miko is a welcoming host and a delicious cook. The house is stunning, with beautiful architectural details and postcard worthy vignettes through each window. We were here in the winter and the house was cozy and snug. I want to come back in very season to experience the changes in landscape and the local food used in each meal. A highlight of our trip on the Kumano Kodo!

This was the nicest place we stayed in along the Kumano Kodo Nakahechi trail by far! It was even better than the Ryokan we stayed in later at Yunomine Onsen area. The house itself was absolutely gorgeous and spotless. It used to be owned by a geisha. It was really warm and cosy inside the house. The wooden bathtub was also lovely for a hot bath too.The host Miko was extremely lovely and helpful. She was very easy to communicate with over WhatsApp and spoke excellent English. She liaised with us to organise to meet us to pick up our luggage from outside the bus stop at Takijiri, and then later met up with us to pick us up from the Takahara rest stop after our 2hr hike. It was all streamlined and happened without a hitch. She was also kind enough to help us with parts of our itinerary that we hadn’t ironed out properly and we really appreciated her advice.Dinner, breakfast and lunch were delicious. Dinner had a wide range of small Japanese dishes and what I think is called Shabu Shabu. Breakfast was eggs within toast, yoghurt and some fruit. I don’t think she is doing lunch boxes anymore this year but it was very delicious. Instead you can buy lunch on your second day at the co-op along the way.Overall we would strongly recommend staying at this place! Thank you Miko for hosting us
