Great craftsman & great person!
Absolutely gorgeous little woodworking shop. The owner is absolutely fabulous. Had a fantastic time about a viary of wood working and shrine artwork and it's symbolism. My only issue is that I don't have the ability buy any of his larger works
Wonderful place we stumbled upon on our way through the forest and up the mountain, such a unique visit!
A hidden gem I stumbled upon accidentally. A quiet place without much tourists. Had so much pleasure talking to woodcarver. The smell of the wood brought back warm memories from childhood.
Kindest and most welcoming person, was an incredible experience stumbling into this workshop
My whole family loved stumbling upon his store.He made all of us so happy, and each of us found something that we could not leave without.He kindly gave us each a small calendar with birds, he let us pick our choice.I hope some day I may go back to his store. It’s a long way from American but I can dream.If you see the chairs in his shop, his friend made them. He’s an interesting and kind man.We even had the pleasure of watching him work a bit while we shopped.
Kosho Oiwa is incredibly welcoming and loves to speak with his guests about his specific carving style, culture, and history. Taking a short detour while visiting Fushimi Inari Shrine is well worth the trip. Oiwa sells different hand-made wood carvings, each with their own story. He’ll also show you to a natural waterfall where you can refill your bottles of water.He takes card and cash to make it easy for visitors.
Had the coolest experience here, the artist is so welcoming and shared a ton of information about the area, its torii gates and shrines, history of his wood carvings, and more. We were also able to purchase some of his work right from the workshop.
