Self guided tour of the area
Such a fantastic spot for Bonsai enthusiasts. The village has over 200 years history of growing Bonsai. There are many nurseries located in the vicinity mainly focused on pine varieties. It's amazing to witness rows and rows of large bonsai plants still in the ground. Some nurseries have an area selling potted Bonsais which you can have a walk through or buy something. Others are closed gates. This isn't exactly a tourist destination, I would only recommend this place to people who have high interest in Bonsais (the nurseries are mainly designed for wholesale). Kinashi, Takamatsu is also a little out of the way.

As another review points out, this isn't really a tourist destination. It isn't set up with a reception booth or committee, but it is extraordinary to see. I visited in August 2025 because I was in the area to see Ritsurin-koen and had some spare time. Sadly, I think the heatwave had driven everyone inside because the place was like a ghost town. I tried to call in at this place and another that's right by the station, but couldn't get an answer. If you're a bonsai lover, this town is worth a short visit just to see the thousands (yes, thousands) of bonsai being reared by the several businesses in the area. Beautiful white pines that would fetch 10,000.GBP or more in the UK, growing in the ground in rows and rows. Thousands of black pines in pots on rows and rows of benches. There's nothing like this in the UK. Maybe you will have more luck than me when you visit. Others say they were welcomed.
