Amazing unexpected find! Very cozy bar with an super friendly bartender/owner. He kept giving free snacks (everytime something else!) and we had a fun conversation. He really knows his drinks and makes proper cocktails. No skimming on the booze here! Great spot, highly recommend!
Die kleine Bar hat 4 Plätze am Tresen und einige wenige kleine Tische. Der Inhaber ist 67 Jahre alt und betreibt die Bar aus Liebhaberei. Öffnungszeiten deshalb "flexibel". Er hat einen Übersetzungscomputer und macht damit small talk mit seinen ausländischen Gästen, schenkt sich dabei selber einen Whiskey nach dem anderen ein. Man darf drinnen rauchen. Es gibt eine grosse Auswahl Spirituosen, im Hintergrund läuft Rockmusik aus den 1970er und 80er Jahren. Es könnte ganz nett sein - aaaaber, etwas unschön: auf einem Schild vor der Tür steht "Bier 600 Yen", doch beim Bezahlen kostet die kleine Flasche (0,33 l) plötzlich 1000. "Inflation" sagt der betrunkene Wirt dann nur.
Super night at Bar Jigen. Having walked for days we stumbled upon this little gem. The barman/owner is a legend…. “I love smoking and drinking”.
We had an amazing time. The owner is chill, plays fun music, and has awesome snacks to pair with the drinks. Since I really enjoy Japanese whiskey, he had me try several that I’ve never had before. It was a great night, arigato!
Amazing service! The owner is so lovely and we had lots of yummy snacks with our white wine and got to play music videos of the tv - this night was a movie
Couldn’t recommend this bar more. The owner is attentive, funny, and great conversation. The bar stylish, they have darts and television, and room for multiple small groups.
We had an absolutely fantastic time at Bar Jigen in Kyoto! As foreigners exploring the city, we were on the hunt for a welcoming local bar and stumbled upon this hidden gem. From the moment we stepped inside, the owner, Maaas, made us feel like old friends with his warm hospitality and infectious energy. The whiskey and beer selection was top-notch, perfect for anyone who loves a great drink. Maaas was an incredible host, sparking lively conversations that kept us entertained all night. We also had a blast playing darts, which made the evening even more unforgettable. Bar Jigen is a must-visit for an authentic, fun-filled night in Kyoto. Five stars—highly recommend!
