Lovely temple with hundreds of cool statues.
I wandered into the area with hundreds of stone statues at Otagi Nenbutsuji. Each one has a quirky pose or expression. There weren't many people around so I could take my time and enjoy the calm atmosphere.
境内を歩くと目に飛び込んでくるのは、笑みを浮かべる石像や楽しげに杯を掲げる像、さらにはカメラを首にかけた像や楽器を奏でる像など、人間味あふれる姿です。これらの石像には「自らの手で仏を刻む」という深い意味が込められています。信者や参拝者が一心に石を彫る行為は、自身の内にある仏心を形に表す修行でもあり、祈りや願いを具体的な姿として結晶させる営みです。そのため、一体一体の像には作者の思いや個性が宿り、どこか温かく、見る者の心を和ませる力を持っています。

Beautiful place. Great spot for history. The workers are pretty rude though. Don't answer any questions. Only want to collect money. One step in and had not set my bag down to get wallet before was told twice to pay. I said wait, as I needed to collect my pregnant wife and was told again how much including her. Took pack off wife to give her a rest and was then again told ok you pay now and the price. It is very clearly marked by the way several places. As im getting money out for us both I asked where to put bags they pointed and said only after you pay. At this point I was O freaking Kay! I have been there 30 seconds with no one waiting in line and have been told a dozen times how much and to pay now. So much for polite calm patient culture.
