We visit Japan at Kyoto, Kobe, Kagoshima, Hakata, Izu, Tokyo, Uji, Nara and Osaka this trip. Some stores allow tax free purchases and some stores charge the 10% Japanese sales tax and tourists need to visit the tax free refund counter to get the 10% Japanese tax refund back. We made some purchases in Osaka Namba station mall and this Global Blue tax refund counter charges 2.1% transaction fees instead of 1.55% everywhere else. Not only did they charge a higher processing fee, they could not refund in cash - meaning in addition to the 2.1% fees, we also need to lose the foreign currency exchange when the refund is made to credit card. While the staff is courteous to apologize cash tax refund is not possible, it does not offer a better solution. I’d avoid shopping in that mall in the future.
