島原鉄道の駅であり、急行の停車駅。ふたつ隣の愛野駅と合わせると「愛しの吾（わ）が妻」になることから、「愛野駅→吾妻駅」の切符は縁起ものと言われています。吾妻駅・愛野駅では前述の切符を同封した「最愛認定証」なるものを購入することができます。

雲仙市にある島原鉄道の吾妻（あづま）駅を夏の時期に訪れました。ここは隣の愛野駅と切符を合わせると「愛しの妻（愛野・吾妻）」と読めることから、ロマンチックな駅としても知られています。夏の吾妻駅周辺は、見渡す限りの青空と大きな入道雲、そして太陽の光を浴びて青々と茂る田園風景が広がり、どこか懐かしい日本の夏を感じさせてくれます。遠くからミンミンと蝉の鳴き声が響く中、島原鉄道の可愛らしい黄色い１両列車がガタゴトと走ってくる光景は、まるでジブリ映画のワンシーンのようです。うだるような暑さの中でも、田んぼを吹き抜ける風が心地よく、日常の喧騒から離れて心穏やかな時間を過ごすことができました。カメラ好きや鉄道ファンはもちろん、静かな癒やしを求める方にぜひおすすめしたい素晴らしい夏の絶景スポットです。I visited Azuma Station on the Shimabara Railway in Unzen City during the summer, and it was an absolutely magical experience. When paired with the neighboring Aino Station, their names playfully translate to "My Beloved Wife," making it a uniquely romantic and popular spot for couples.In the middle of summer, the station is surrounded by endless bright green rice paddies and a vast, clear blue sky with towering summer clouds. Hearing the cicadas sing as the iconic, cheerful yellow single-car train slowly rolls into this quiet, rustic station feels like stepping straight into a nostalgic Japanese anime film. Despite the intense summer heat, the gentle breeze blowing through the lush countryside is incredibly refreshing. It’s a perfect hidden gem for train enthusiasts, photographers, or anyone looking to escape the busy city life and experience the peaceful, slow-paced charm of rural Japan in the summertime. Highly recommended!
