Emilio Greco (Catania, 11 October 1913 – Rome, 5 April 1995) was an Italian sculptor, writer and illustrator.At the age of thirteen he began working as an apprentice stonemason in the restoration and construction of civic monuments.He achieved great popularity with the monument Pinocchio and the Fairy (1956) for the town of Collodi in Toscana. The Monument to Pope John XXIII in St. Peter's in Rome and the Doors of the Cathedral of Orvieto (1970) are by him.He taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and later in Salzburg.The Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg and the Pushkin Museum in Moscow dedicated a room of sculptures and graphic works to him.He is currently considered one of the greatest sculptors of the twentieth century
