We had a great time at Samurai Base during our Hakone trip. Before we arrived, the communication from the hosts was excellent and the house documents they sent were very descriptive and helpful. It was conveniently located near a bus stop and a 7-11. It included all the amenities we needed - a washing machine, microwave, electric kettle, fridge, even a hotplate! There were 3 of us staying there and I would say that's the limit, especially when you're sharing a single bathroom and shower. The bed mats were pretty comfortable and there was a heater which worked well for our cold October nights. Although the bedding was pretty cozy as well. The Samurai decor and the large full-wall poster of the Osaka castle were a nice quirky touch. The price was pretty reasonable, especially for Hakone. We paid a little less than $300 for 3 nights in October 2025.Generally, we recommend Samurai Base and would stay here again.

Stayed here for 3n as a group of 3, and it was fantastic. The room size was so spacious; the futon beds were one of the most comfiest I've used and conveniently folds up easily; the huge & modern TV; the amenities like washing machine, reverse aircon, fridge etc; the little extras like miso soup & coffee pour-overs just made the stay more special. It's 2 bus stops away from Gora, but it's also 20mins walk (up-hill) if you take the staircase alleyway. It's less than 5mins walk to 7-11, that we visited daily for essentials: snacks, drinks etc. It's also 5 mins walk to a community onsen (where although staff don't speak fluent English, they are more than welcoming & provide a pamphlet with english instructions). The ninja themes in the room were fantastic for the kids!
