Learning at JaLS Fukuoka with experienced teachers and kind and english speaking staff, that is always open for questions and easy to talk to, was a great experience.I stayed 6 weeks and did the regular course with private lessons which was very efficient for my personal case. Also living with a japanese host family was a good experience.I did not do too many activities but that was okay as I was very busy myself.Would definitly do this again and recommend!Thank you JaLS team 🫶🏻📚💫
Completed a 3 weeks classes in Jals Fukuoka 30+ March 2026, it was really a great and fun experience for me. The class is small great for conversational practices and questions answered, the teachers are very professional and passionate, staff are also extremely nice and helpful. The school also provided after classes activities some are free and some with fees but very affordable. Also worth mentioning is the school is for 30+ so it's very easy to meet people with similar backgrounds from different countries. Jals Fukuoka is a place I would keep coming back.
I had a very good experience with Fukuoka JaLS when my husband and I were there November to December 2025.I struggled in the beginning with Japanese Hiragana and Katakana but my teachers and my husband were very helpful, so I was able to continue studying. I am very grateful to my teachers and staff for the patience and understanding that they showed me.I have told my friends and colleagues in my workplace (hospital) about learning Japanese through JaLS. It was part of my intent to learn a new language to help improve my memory and to prevent dementia. I strongly encouraged my friends/colleagues to try JaLs because I thought it turned out to be a fun and worthwhile experience. I will continue to promote JaLs as long as there will be an opportunity.Thank you JaLs Staff and Teachers!
FUKUOKA JaLS 30+ was an amazing experience. The teachers are friendly, professional, and truly care about their students’ progress. I felt comfortable and the small class sizes made a big difference.Like all JaLS locations, many students are at the beginner level; however, the school also has highly capable instructors who effectively support more advanced learners. Speaking Japanese every day at school helped refresh and strengthen my skills, especially since I have limited opportunities to use Japanese at home. During my time in Fukuoka, I frequently received compliments on my Japanese from people outside of school, and JaLS played a significant role in restoring my confidence.I participated in a few of the cultural activities, and they were very enjoyable. The staff do an excellent job of ensuring that students truly experience Fukuoka and its culture.I do have a couple of constructive criticisms, particularly as this was my fourth time attending a JaLS school. First, the Fukuoka campus shares space with a JR co-working facility. Due to the limited size and shared atmosphere, I felt there were fewer opportunities for students to socialize outside of class. Having a dedicated space for students to relax, study, and interact more freely with teachers and staff would greatly enhance the overall experience.Second, I have some concerns regarding the broader precedent set by the parent company of JaLS. The staff—especially at this location—are extremely dedicated and supportive, but they appear to work very long hours while managing many responsibilities. I believe additional support staff would allow for more meaningful interactions with students and help reduce the workload on existing staff. While I understand that this reflects common work culture in Japan, it may discourage some Western students from considering long-term careers there. Observing how hard the staff work often made me think they deserve more rest and support. This is something that may only become noticeable to students who have attended JaLS multiple times or over a long period.I encourage CO&CO to continue striving to set an example that communicates: “Working in Japan can be rewarding and sustainable,” and “We take care of our employees so they can grow and support students for years to come.” This observation is not specific to the Fukuoka staff, who are exceptional, but rather a general reflection.Overall, you could not ask for better student support at JaLS. The staff across all locations are passionate, dedicated, and genuinely caring.
I recently completed four weeks of beginning Japanese language classes and it was an overall great experience. This is the second JaLS campus I have attended and both have exceeded my expectations. It is located in a very convenient part of Fukuoka, the Hakata train station. It’s more than just a convenient location, though. As a new visitor to the city, it gave me a sense of security because I could find almost everything I needed in one place. Food, clothes, books, information, transportation and entertainment are all here. My housing was located within a twenty minute walk, so I visited on weekends too.I was in a mid-beginner level class. My classes were taught by multiple teachers. Every teacher was thoughtful and took an active interest in me. This really helped activate my “Japanese brain” and sped up my learning. I think this approach was better than having only one teacher, because it gave me more opportunities for learning. In addition to the teachers, there is a super group of support staff that do everything from coordinating housing to leading cultural tours. The school director was very good at communicating via email before I arrived in Japan and she and her staff were always friendly and ready to help me at the school.I feel like my Japanese definitely improved at JaLS. I would not hesitate to enroll at JaLS Fukuoka, or another JaLS campus again.

I completed a 4 week course (basic+private lessons) here in March-April 2026. It was intense, but boy so worth it! Especially if you’ve already come further in your studies, no longer a beginner and are losing hope, sign up for this school! Not only did my speaking and the command of vocabulary improved significantly, I also started to feel less desperate about the kanji (the exposure really helps). As to the school itself: the location is probably the most convenient you can find in Fukuoka, the teachers and the staff are just the best. The classes are small, very international, we had classmates from all over the world. Everyone is very motivated, studying hard every day, but also very fun to be around and do stuff together during and outside of the class. When you are language learner at 30+ , which tends to be lonely, it is especially valuable to have this exchange with others, gain different perspectives etc, you just never run out of topics and non-boring sentence examples in class. Speaking of the class, our Senseis (shoutout to Hiroka-Sensei) always went above and beyond: it was fun all the time and we were learning every moment. As to my private class (Hide-sensei was tutoring me most of the times), it was absolutely terrific too, and helped me to massively improve. The administrators/staff are simply heroes, Ryoko-san, Taiga-san, Lillia-san, were always ready to help and made sure we have great experience everywhere: at school, at home, during the activities. Thank you JaLS people for one of the best experiences I’ve had in years, all your support, care, help, teaching and the knowledge you share!
