FUKUOKA JaLS 30+ was an amazing experience. The teachers are friendly, professional, and truly care about their students’ progress. I felt comfortable and the small class sizes made a big difference.Like all JaLS locations, many students are at the beginner level; however, the school also has highly capable instructors who effectively support more advanced learners. Speaking Japanese every day at school helped refresh and strengthen my skills, especially since I have limited opportunities to use Japanese at home. During my time in Fukuoka, I frequently received compliments on my Japanese from people outside of school, and JaLS played a significant role in restoring my confidence.I participated in a few of the cultural activities, and they were very enjoyable. The staff do an excellent job of ensuring that students truly experience Fukuoka and its culture.I do have a couple of constructive criticisms, particularly as this was my fourth time attending a JaLS school. First, the Fukuoka campus shares space with a JR co-working facility. Due to the limited size and shared atmosphere, I felt there were fewer opportunities for students to socialize outside of class. Having a dedicated space for students to relax, study, and interact more freely with teachers and staff would greatly enhance the overall experience.Second, I have some concerns regarding the broader precedent set by the parent company of JaLS. The staff—especially at this location—are extremely dedicated and supportive, but they appear to work very long hours while managing many responsibilities. I believe additional support staff would allow for more meaningful interactions with students and help reduce the workload on existing staff. While I understand that this reflects common work culture in Japan, it may discourage some Western students from considering long-term careers there. Observing how hard the staff work often made me think they deserve more rest and support. This is something that may only become noticeable to students who have attended JaLS multiple times or over a long period.I encourage CO&CO to continue striving to set an example that communicates: “Working in Japan can be rewarding and sustainable,” and “We take care of our employees so they can grow and support students for years to come.” This observation is not specific to the Fukuoka staff, who are exceptional, but rather a general reflection.Overall, you could not ask for better student support at JaLS. The staff across all locations are passionate, dedicated, and genuinely caring.
I recently completed four weeks of beginning Japanese language classes and it was an overall great experience. This is the second JaLS campus I have attended and both have exceeded my expectations. It is located in a very convenient part of Fukuoka, the Hakata train station. It’s more than just a convenient location, though. As a new visitor to the city, it gave me a sense of security because I could find almost everything I needed in one place. Food, clothes, books, information, transportation and entertainment are all here. My housing was located within a twenty minute walk, so I visited on weekends too.I was in a mid-beginner level class. My classes were taught by multiple teachers. Every teacher was thoughtful and took an active interest in me. This really helped activate my “Japanese brain” and sped up my learning. I think this approach was better than having only one teacher, because it gave me more opportunities for learning. In addition to the teachers, there is a super group of support staff that do everything from coordinating housing to leading cultural tours. The school director was very good at communicating via email before I arrived in Japan and she and her staff were always friendly and ready to help me at the school.I feel like my Japanese definitely improved at JaLS. I would not hesitate to enroll at JaLS Fukuoka, or another JaLS campus again.
I attended a two-week course in October and my experience was excellent. The teachers did a great job in helping us learn Japanese. The classes were fun to attend and my impression was that I learned a lot in the two weeks. Besides that, there was communication between the teachers about the progress and the tasks we had to do. The teaching style was very cooperative and when necessary, we got explanations in English. This is especially helpful when you start to learn a language. Compared to other language schools I went to before, this was a very positive impression. Also, the activities organised by the school were great and a lot of fun. The team who organised them did a great job.The location of the school is also perfect, directly in Hakata station. Fukuoka is also a good place to study because it is quite a big city but not too big. Other places in Kyushu are easily accessible.Regarding all these points, I can very much recommend learning Japanese at JALS.
I was in the intermediate Japanese class at Fukuoka JaLS for 4 weeks in October 2025 and the overall experience was fantastic. We had two steady teachers who split the week and both were superb. The textbook was chuukyuu dekiru Nihongo (中級できる日本語) which emphasizes practical rather than more academic Japanese and does a good job of showing the differences in conversational Japanese based on levels of formalities, friends versus co-workers, etc. The teachers used other materials too and spent a significant amount of time on listening comprehension, which was very helpful. The location in Hakata Station is very convenient and the school’s facilities, which are also used by non-students for remote work, is extremely comfortable. The support staff was also superb in arranging lots of outside activities for students and providing many opportunities to practice Japanese with local Fukuoka residents. They even helped arrange the reservations for me to go horseback riding in Fukuoka at a park which had trails in the forest and also along the beach, which was an amazing experience. But best of all, my Japanese improved significantly over the 4 weeks thanks to the diligent teachers, the great fellow students in my class from Europe and Asia that made classes enjoyable and fun to learn, and the very encouraging atmosphere provided by the school.
Just completed a three-week study at JaLS Language School, and it has been an incredibly fulfilling and memorable experience! The teachers are exceptional—highly knowledgeable, passionate, and always patient in addressing any questions. Their teaching methods are dynamic and engaging, adjusting the lessons based on each student's progress, ensuring that everyone can easily follow along and grasp key language concepts. The small class size ensures that each student receives ample attention and personalized guidance, which significantly accelerates learning.Additionally, the school provides a great opportunity to interact with classmates from around the world, offering a diverse environment where cultural exchange thrives. The Japanese cultural experience activities offered by the school further enrich the learning journey, providing deep insights into both traditional and modern aspects of Japan. Overall, Jals Language School is an excellent place for anyone looking to improve their Japanese skills while immersing themselves in Japanese culture. Highly recommended!

I had a very good experience with Fukuoka JaLS when my husband and I were there November to December 2025.I struggled in the beginning with Japanese Hiragana and Katakana but my teachers and my husband were very helpful, so I was able to continue studying. I am very grateful to my teachers and staff for the patience and understanding that they showed me.I have told my friends and colleagues in my workplace (hospital) about learning Japanese through JaLS. It was part of my intent to learn a new language to help improve my memory and to prevent dementia. I strongly encouraged my friends/colleagues to try JaLs because I thought it turned out to be a fun and worthwhile experience. I will continue to promote JaLs as long as there will be an opportunity.Thank you JaLs Staff and Teachers!
