We rented the Green Suzuki for 2 nights. The small car was excellent for navigating the narrow streets of Japan and served as the perfect vehicle for our camping trip around Mt Fuji. The awning together with the camping chairs and built in table served us well for our meals and were easy to set up and disassemble. The pop-up top gave ample room to stand up inside the car and made it feel pretty spacious as well. The cushions used to make the bed were comfortable. The car even came with an inbuilt tap and sink as well as microwave which was convenient. One thing to note is that many entry points into the highways around Tokyo are now ETC only, hence it may be a good idea to get the ETC card for the convenience (we did not and encountered some trouble finding a toll gate that accepted cash as neither google maps nor waze is able to indicate this for you)Last but not least William who was our point of contact for the company was very friendly and easily contactable on Whatsapp. Thank you for your help and for making our trip a pleasant one!All in all we had an enjoyable experience with this rental company and would definitely do so again.
Had the pleasure of working with Ken, who was incredibly responsive and communicated with us the whole way through with no gaps in translation. The camper was somehow compact and spacious at the same time and a super fun experience taking it to see Mount Fuji. Would definitely rent it again, there were a lot of recommended visits that we unfortunately were not able to see but would definitely do a return trip for.
We rented kei car for about 12 days trip. The car performed well on mountain highways, it isn't super fast when going uphill, so bear that in mind if you are in the overtaking lane on the highway. The self-checkin was really nice and fast.Ken was helpful when we needed help to put the seats lay flat, and speaks and Whats apps fluent English andThx Ken for the regular update on Etc card usage & constant communication. 🥰It's easy to pop up the the van (its using hidraulic system, its doable for a lady to open n close it!)-- you get natural air ventilation and sounds and yet feel the warmth, comfort and privacy of a van at lower level in the car...Microwave comes in handy to make a cup of hot coffee for breakfast b4 our adventure of the day starts :)The external battery (solar charged) comes in handy at night to charged up our gadgets n powerbanks to be used day time. The (fan) air ventilation in the car works well too to get air circulation in the car during this autumn season.Overall, super happy with the Kei Car. Suggestions that would make it even better.* Improvements for suggestion, passenger side futon is a bit soft, can add plank or cupboard for better back supportThese are my suggestion -- the van is already good as is!Thanks Ken, see you next time!
I rented the Toyota HiAce (yellow) for 7 days in May and I had a wonderful time.I could visit spots around Japan that would have been difficult to do with only public transportation. Here is a quick recap of some of the things that I did in just a week:I drove to Hachi Base to see the night sky in a designated dark zone, the number of stars was absolutely astounding! I hiked in the Mononoke Forest full of moss. I camped next to Lake Hibara and made new friends, and hiked around the Nakasenuma colorful ponds. I drove through beautiful mountain areas at night and saw many deer and tanuki by the side of the road. I explored Sendai and Ishinomaki, I visited Tashirojima, the fishing island full of cats. I drove south on the east coast of Japan all the way to Chiba. I showered and bathed in amazing hot springs every day.Ken has been really helpful with everything, always replying quickly on WhatsApp.I had some suggestions for the vehicle and the interior and he fixed everything after my rental, it should be perfect for anyone wanting to take on an adventure in Japan! The car has a strong engine and the controls are really easy to use. There is ample storage space for all the things I had with me. The fridge works great. When the camper is converted to a bed, it is really large and very comfortable actually. Heating at night works great and it doesn't use a lot of battery, I recommend setting the timer to infinity and turning it off in the morning, it only pumps heat when the temperature is lower than the set value anyway. This car was pricier than the tiny one, but I think it is worth it, especially if you are on the taller side (I am almost 190cm/6'2"), or if you want to drive through the mountains where the roads can get quite steep and the bigger engine is warranted.I will definitely rent from 3rd Place Camper again, thank you so much!
A big thank you to Ken and the team from 3rd Place Camper. I had an amazing time on my journey in their kei car camper driving over 2500km in 7 days. The car is so easy to drive and will handle any journey. It has more space inside than you would think and the roof top rent makes it feel even more spacious.Very happy with the service and communication from the team, whenever I had any questions or if I needed help Ken was always happy to answer my questions and guide me through it.Pick up and drop off was super simple too, clear instructions with pictures.Overall, very happy with the service and would rent a camper from them again.
We have rented the green Suzuki Every for 2 night at it was a really good experience with this van, miles are unlimited and it was really easy to pick-up the car because the instruction were clear for us.We went to the most stunning places around Mount Fuji and we felt comfortable during the night. The car didn’t let us down at all and everything works as well. We did use the heater due the cold but it was warm very quickly. The car did have damage but make photos of everything to defend yourself, we haven’t got any problem with this. You can take the ETC from them, but we calculated and it was cheaper to do without.Driving with strong wind can be difficult because it light and push you left and rightWe did have some things to mention, as the owner asked by himself-We experience that the owner didn’t reply on question by email and also not by WhatsApp. So after a while we had to book and asked him afterwards the question such as if it was including unlimited mileage and bond-The external battery was a little confusing because we didn’t know if we could turn it on the whole night, so we slept in very cold condition. It was not in the instruction how long it last.-Sleeping bags are not good with freezing temperature, we regret we rented it instead buying warm sleeping bags.-Instruction for the refueling the car can be nice because the button to open it took us 10 minutes. At the end we really enjoy this car and we actually hoped to kept this car for a few more days.
Great camper van rental agency to work with. They were responsive by email, phone call, and text before, during, and after my trip. They answered any questions I had in a timely fashion.I took the van on a trip through the Fuji and Wakayama regions. It held up for the long distance, windy and rainy weather, and was overall easy to drive. I’m 5’2” and was perfectly comfortable sleeping in the back of the van, so I imagine it might be small for taller individuals. I brought a sleeping bag and sleeping mat to be extra comfortable in the van during the trip. I’m glad the company owners convinced me to get an ETC card, as that made my travels much easier, and I used it everywhereI did end up causing small damage to the car during my trip, and the CDW ended up covering it, so I recommend getting it for extra reassurance if you are considering heading off the beaten path. I texted them immediately, and they handled the case professionally and quickly to allow me to continue to enjoy the rest of my trip. One consideration for improvement is that it was difficult to find the rental location from the airport. Some other competitors offer a shuttle service or additional transportation for about the same price. That would particularly help out customers arriving from the airport.Overall positive experience and would recommend for international travelers!
3rd Place Camper were phenomenal and I will definitely use their campers in the future! The short version:- I rented one of the small kei car campers with the sleeping bag, chair, and lantern etc- There is a small TV which is cool but one thing I would have loved would be a Bluetooth or AUX connection for the infotainment system- Weather was pretty cold but not freezing (between 0-15 degrees celsius), and the heater in the car really helped!- I'm 182cm and could sleep comfortably in it even if it was a tight fit, just had to adjust the front seats a bitI was traveling around Japan alone in Feb/March of 2024 and decided to rent a camper van. I found 3rd Place Camper online and rented one of the smaller kei car campers. I got the sleeping bag, camping chair, and lantern as well but didn't use the chair all that much due to the weather. The booking procedure was very easy and convenient using the website, a big plus for the "search for availability" feature. After making a reservation I had a short email exchange with them and everything was all set. I also rented an ETC card which came in handy a couple of times. The pickup instructions were easy to follow and are entirely self service, but in my case I ran into Ken and had a lovely conversation before I embarking on my journey. The weather was pretty cold - between 0-15 degrees celsius - and, although not freezing, the heater in the car was a godsend! One night I didn't have access to an outlet and was a bit worried about how long the battery would last with the heater on, so I used it sparingly. In hindsight I don't think I had to worry too much.I'm around 182cm tall and could sleep comfortably in the car - even if it was a tight fit! - after adjusting the front seats a bit.I didn't have any particular camping equipment and instead made use of the microwave in the car. Very convenient! The driving experience was great. I love these small cars, and compared to a larger camper van I had no problems parking anywhere or making my way down a narrow road.It was a truly wonderful trip and had an absolute blast driving around the Izu peninsula and Mt Fuji. I managed to fulfill a dream of mine: waking up to the sunrise over Mt Fuji.Huge props to Ken who helped me throughout my trip!

We were very happy with our decision, we had a great time camping with the Suzuki. The only sad part was that we had to bring it back at the end :)))Ken was very helpful, and we had no issues with the van, it was fun to drive and cosy, overall would definitely recommend!
