I found this simple currency exchange machine in the lobby of APA Hotel & Resort Tokyo Bay Shiomi. I had been searching for exchange services nearby, and while many locations showed up online, this one didn’t—so it was a nice surprise when I spotted it near the elevators.Instead of going out of my way to find another exchange counter, I decided to check the rate and exchange a small amount. The process was very easy and quick, which made it super convenient.In Kyoto, I exchanged at around 155 yen just 2–3 days ago, (The exchange rate stayed fairly consistent over the past few days.) but this machine was offering 144.04 (approx. 9.2% fee). I also stopped by Tokyo Station, where the rate was around 148 (approx. 6.7% fee).Some restaurants and JR still require cash, so I needed a small amount and decided to exchange anyway for emergency use. If you’re planning to visit Japan, it’s worth searching in advance or asking AI for the best exchange options.Overall, it’s very convenient—but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you just need a small amount quickly.
