My wife and I enjoyed the Banjouji Pond on a relatively warm winter day. Even if the wind is blowing, when the sun shines during a long walk, I may wish to take my jacket off. For those who are concerned with details, it was February 13, a Friday. The time is just before 1 o'clock in the afternoon. It seems there is only so much onsen I can do. Perhaps forst bathing is the answer to feel even more refreshed after the onsen! My wife and I decide to go for a walk, and choose the Yumenoi Walking Path as a starting point. A little more than halfway through the walking path, after crossing a wooden bridge over a swampy area, the main path goes left, but to the right . . . well, even if the trail gets narrow, it seems a little exciting. Even when I recommend to continue on the walking path, my wife encourages me to explore to the right.Even if the trail is a little overgrown, my wife, who is very scared of bugs, is very brave and follows behind me with a determined mindset. After about 100 metres, reach an old and decaying bridge . . . it seems that there were once multiple logs over the gap, but now only the metal bars that the logs were laid on remain. Still, the metal bars are solid and with good balance the gap can be crossed.Shortly afterwards we reach Banjouji Pond. Even if it is the middle of the day, when we arrive it seems we are the only people enjoying the pond. As soon as I walk up to the edge of the pond, three ducks are startled and fly off into the sky. Even though the pond is named after a temple from the Hakuho period, it does not seem to have any connection to the temple . . . the only way to tell that this pond has anything to do with the temple is the large blue sign announcing the name of the pond, with a warning against falling in for children playing. Actually, the sign seems to be the only thing that feels new about the pond, with the rest of it feeling like very few people have visited in the last decade. Once the ducks flew away, the water became still; I can see why a warning sign is required. If a child were to fall in this pond, I do not think anyone else would come by to help them for half of a year.Overall, Banjouji Pond is recommended for walkers who enjoy onsen but want to be refreshed with forest-bathing. Temple enthusiasts could be interested, but please be careful ! ! There is nothing about this pond besides the name that suggests anything to do with the temple. Even if the pond is relatively unexciting, the walk over the bridge ruins is exciting, and it is additionally recommended for those who enjoy the sight of startled ducks flying away.Thank you for your consideration.
