伝承の技、厚みのある天ぷら。
TEMPURA STREET
Two long-standing tempura houses, facing each other across a narrow street:船橋屋 and 新宿つな八.Funabashiya dates back to 1886,while Tsunahachi was founded in 1924 (Taishō 13)—both carrying their craft across generations.Oil, batter, timing—techniques refined over decades, repeated with quiet precision. There is no sign marking this place. No official name to guide you here.Yet the presence of these two restaurants defines the street—a shared lineage of craft, held in balance. We call this stretch “Tempura Street.”From FASHION HEADLINE JAPAN,through the lens of SHINJUKU MAP & CITY GUIDE.

Located just around the corner of another tourist-filled tempura shop, this shop is actually visited by more Japanese customers than tourists.Flavourful tempura. Unlike typical Japanese tempura with light batter, the batter here is slightly thick. But that is not a bad thing for people who prefer tempura that is infused with the flavours of the oil it is fried in.
