This is a very relaxing home with gorgeous views of nature. Finding a place with such thoughtful touches and fully furnished is one of the great things I love about boutique accommodations. The photos do not do it justice. I was planning a road trip through the area, so initially stayed at their other location in Atami (The Layer Atami Garden), which was a nice first chapter to my experiences with The Layer group. (Both are close to the train station, but I just so happened to be driving.) Atami felt vibrant and nostalgic with massive mountains tumbling into the sea whereas Izu was a secluded sanctuary and quaint retro coastal town.At the house, we loved playing games in the evening; there was plenty of space to spread out our materials, and the lighting was warm and inviting.We cooked at home most of the time, and the afternoons felt like a special occasion shared with friends.I also loved relaxing in the engawa and listening to the record collection. And as a light sleeper with high needs for comfort, I was impressed by the padding of their futons. My hips were comfortable all night long.The Izu Peninsula is famous for natural beauty, and we’ll never forget the Izu Skyline Drive and its delicious wasabi ice cream so close to the house. Loved this experience.
This mid-century modern Japanese home is a hidden gem. Where else can you find a renovated retro karaoke room (hello, velvet!) AND a traditional hinoki-lined bath in the same home? My photos don’t do it justice; it has to be seen in person to soak up the ambiance.We had good views of Mt. Omuro as we explored the area, and our hike along the Jogasaki Coast was so fun. The Izu Peninsula is a geographical masterpiece!We ate in Ito town a few times; I loved the fresh seafood, and the oceanfront area of Marine Town is a cute slice of history. (try the kamaboko fish cakes from the vendor there, yum!)I work from home a lot, and the high-speed wifi and comfy workspace made it very digital nomad friendly!I would say this is the best boutique stay in Ito, and is a quiet alternative to big hotels. I recently stayed at The Layer Atami Garden, which is another one of their properties, and both left me speechless with their attention to detail and inviting design.Can’t wait to go back to both The Layer Ito and The Layer Atami Garden! I’m an Izu Peninsula convert!

We loved our stay at the Layer Ito so much. So much greenery, garden views and beautiful interior that reminded us the craftsmanship and details that were put into making this place a beautiful escape from the buzz of Tokyo concrete jungle. It was so cozy, so chill and at the same time so fun(not boring at all) with a bright karaoke room and beautiful kitchen that’s equipped for group and family travels. If you get a chance to see a place that offers Japanese countryside or seaside or onsen ton escape Ito is the place. The hosts gave us ample amount of recommendations to see local spots for dinner and Izakaya. We would love to visit again!
