Positioned on the slopes of Mount Otokoyama within Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine’s grounds, the bronze Statue of the Boy Scout is a distinctive lesser-known monument with profound local significance. Erected to honour Japan’s Boy Scout movement, this sculpture captures a youthful scout standing in dignified readiness, embodying the ideals of perseverance, integrity and love for nature.Set alongside the mountain’s pilgrimage path, the statue is surrounded by dense native trees that shift beautifully through the seasons. Spring cherry blossoms and vibrant autumn maples form picturesque backdrops, making it a charming spot for photographs. Unlike the shrine’s iconic ancient cultural relics, this modern monument creates a fascinating contrast between contemporary youth culture and centuries-old Shinto pilgrimage tradition.A short distance from Sekisuitei and the funicular route, it fits neatly into mountain sightseeing itineraries. Free from large tourist crowds, this quiet landmark offers visitors a unique perspective on Mount Otokoyama. Blending natural scenery and commemorative art, the Boy Scout Statue serves as an unexpected, memorable highlight while exploring the expansive shrine precinct.
