This legacy fabric store has been owned by the same family since 1850. The woman who helped us was born on site! The fabric is beautiful and unique; it's all 14" - 15.5" wide with sufficient yardage for making traditional kimono. They stock about 90% is silk and 10% cotton. Once we explained that we wanted cotton, the shopkeeper showed us minutely detailed kasuri (ikat) that surely required immense skill to weave. We happily bought 2 bolts and plan to return to show her what we made!
