Quite long, TL;DR at the end of reviewMoving to another city, let alone another country, has all kinds of pitfalls. You don't know the locals, you don't know the area, and, in my case, when moving from the US to Japan, you probably don't know the language. I was lucky to have the pleasure of staying at Pasiones Japon Shinkoiwa for 2 years and 4 months, and I can tell you that it was one of the best experiences of my entire life. Between the delicious home cooked local cuisine, and the truly family atmosphere, it became a second real family for me. Okaasan and Yuji (the family that you live with here) are extremely welcoming, easy to talk to, and always willing to lend a helping hand for their guests. Not only that, I made memories with them that will never be forgotten. It's really hard to know where to start when writing a review. Especially when the experience that you had can go beyond words. However, if I had to sum up my time at Pasiones Japon Shinkoiwa, the word I'd use to describe it is "Heart". Everything that Yuji and Okaasan does, they seem to truly put 100% heart into it. There is nothing that is left out, nothing that isn't thought of, and I was never left feeling like an outsider in someone else's house. Through my journey of moving to Japan (during the covid pandemic back in 2022) all the way through graduating language school and finding a job and beginning my life in Tokyo, they were always there for me. When I had caught covid, they were able to help me get better, when I graduated, they celebrated with me. Truly a real family feel and a once in a lifetime experience.TL;DR--Family: So very kind, caring, anything you could ever hope for in a host family or even a short term stay. Easy to talk to, and extremely supportive.Location: Super convenient, access to a main line of the JR. (Blue and Yellow lines, Chuo-Sobu line) 12 minutes walk to Shinkoiwa Station, bus stop is about a 5 minute walk. If you need, coin laundry also about a 3 minute walk. Lots of shops near the location and the station just got a remodel.Accommodations: Always immaculate, food extremely good and local. The room was very comfortable, lots of storage space and all facilities work perfectly.
I was staying there April/May 2020 for a couple days after I had to move host family due to the Covid scare.I am not sure if this is still the same, but I remember being told the breakfast rather included sandwiches than a typical Japanese breakfast. Personally I had a problem with cold morning food, so the family accommodated my needs and prepared warm breakfast for me.My parents insisted that I travel home and even though I had only just gotten to know them, they wished I could have stayed longer. At last, Mr. drove me to Haneda airport for free which was a really welcome surprise

I stayed there for two weeks and had a wonderful experience. Yuji and Okaasan were very welcoming. Every day, we would have conversations in the morning and evening. Okaasan would share her tips for cooking and cooked my favourite Japanese food. Yuji was like a brother and was so helpful to recommend and help to make an appointment for my haircut despite being so busy. I have found a family in them and helped to be experience true Japanese hospitality! Missing them very much!
