Very friendly hosts, who are always reachable. They provide a detailed guide and map with all of the important things around. You can also rent all kinds of beach gear and bikes.
Booked 3 nights (via their website with a paypal deposit for the 1st night as host didn't except a reservation via phone). Had a COCKROACH in our room the first night!!!!! So we decided to leave as most of us would especially when paying 9000yen(75euro)/2persons/night one should expect a hygiene level that excludes COCKROACHES in the room!!! We asked for a refund of the other 2 nights. There was no understanding from the hosts side (he even was impolite enough to raise his voice) and was only willing to refund 4500 from 18000 yen paid refering to their cancellation policy. However that this COCKROACH case should be handled in a more customer centric way he did not understand (would you have to pay for a meal if a living COCKROACH was in it that shouldn't be?). Also the host was pushy and insisting we pay all nights in advance when we first met him (its one thing if thats their policy but the manner was unfriendly and impatient)
This place is great. The owners are awesome and it's a beautiful area. Price is good & very clean. Basically a really nice hostel.
I’ve stayed at Tabi Tabi several times and have had a pleasant stay every time. Angela and Yasu who own are run the place are super friendly and helpful and the place is clean and comfortable. The house is an old Japanese house with wooden floors and tatami mat rooms, so do don’t expect a new building, but they keep it very clean, the aircon is nice and cold, and the use of free bikes lets you ride to all the beaches. Lots of places in the area provide the same size of room for twice the price and half the service, so Tabi Tabi is the best value for money in Shimoda.
