Sumida River during cherry blossom season was the highlight of the entire experience — especially in the evening. The density, size, and maturity of the trees along the river create a truly impressive canopy, and even slightly past peak bloom the blossoms were still very full. Combined with the lighting, reflections on the water, and the Tokyo Skytree in the background, the overall scene is postcard-perfect.We walked along the river on the side opposite the Skytree first, which provided fantastic perspectives for photos. Later, we crossed via the Kototoi-dori bridge and walked south along the eastern side — this section was narrower but just as dense with blossoms and remained fully lit even after 9pm.Important tip:- The main lights along parts of the river switch off promptly at 9pm, so plan your visit accordingly to maximise the illuminated experienceWhat makes this location stand out:- Works exceptionally well in the late bloom / falling petal phase- Less chaotic than Ueno but still vibrant- Ideal mix of nature, city skyline, and lightingBest for:- Evening and night viewing (highly recommended)- Photography (reflections, skyline, depth of trees)- A more immersive and scenic sakura walkOverall: Easily one of the best sakura viewing spots in Tokyo, particularly at night — this is a must-visit if timing allows.
