We recently used this company for a neuropsychological assessment. We found all staff professional and courteous. The intake forms, although tedious to fill out, really helped understand the underlying concerns that we had. The testing phase went smoothly and we were provided with a thorough report, as well as a debrief session to ask any questions. The report contained recommendations to implement.
I can't believe how many poor reviews this company has. I was just about to suggest it on Reddit so that brought be back here. My experience with TELL is from about 5-6 years ago when I lived in Tokyo. At that time it was absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to find English speaking therapists, besides thru the American Clinic which was incredibly expensive and I had no private insurance. I found my therapist was quite helpful. She was really helpful to me at a time I was truly struggling. (Edit: I qualified for sliding scale)I do find $350 to be a volunteer quite expensive tho, and i do work for a Non-Profit now...perhaps they could look into a government grant that would cover this cost? I volunteer in my home country as a supportive listener and most of the training is self learning thru online portals. I can't see why it should cost anything.
I’ve been a client at tell for over 4 years worked with 3 different therapist until I found the best fit and also did couples counseling with my now husband which have transformed our relationship to the happiest we’ve ever been.I was on my way to my weekly session and was curious to check the google reviews. (At the time I chose to work with tell 4 years ago the reviews were really good) I am saddened by the amount of negative reviews calling this organization which helped save my life and my marriage over the years a scam or fake. This is truly unfair. While tell have their issues they are mainly organizational issues in my opinion caused by being underfunded, such as being understaffed I definitely had my moments of rage over the system in which they handle invoicing and finances only to learn that there was only one person handling everything related back office procedures. In all honesty I believe my rage at the time was disproportionate the situation and mainly caused by my own psychological suffering. I empathize with that version of myself and I regret the unnecessary harm I may have caused to the worker on the receiving end of my angry (rude) emails.Regardless, they were and still are extremely patient, empathetic and kind towards me. My current therapist Akiko-san is incredible and I’m grateful truly for tell’s therapists and employees and for myself for putting in the work and not giving up on myself. From this position I could also empathize and imagine that others may not be satisfied with the service but it definitely does not warrant calling this great organization a “scam”TLDR; tell helped me and my husband over 4+ years and should not be called “scam”
I talked only with volunteer people (Tell jp also do counseling with a fee. Review for both services are here). As I have own therapist.Tell jp used to help me every time I was suicidal, but these days (I know I cannot complain to volunteer tho..)I came across volunteers with different counseling approach (2 times)which is listening to me.Although I appreciate people listen to me as a volunteer a lot, It’s not only me who are offended by “listening “counseling style. I wish other people are still there.
TELL Japan was recommended to me by my therapist in the US since they could no longer be my provider due to living outside of the US. From the time I submitted my intake form online I was seen (virtually due to COVID) in less than two weeks. Rieko has been an essential asset to my mental health over the past 8 months and has helped me navigate my many feelings surrounding ex-pat life and working within a traditional Japanese company’s structure. I can’t speak for every counselor, but overall my experience has been very positive and worthwhile!
Indispensible non-profit.
(原文)A serious non-profit organisation offering face-to-face counselling, parenting groups, and a free counselling helpline similar to The Samaritans (UK) or The Lifeline (Australia). There is a very dodgy English-speaking psychiatrist operating in Tokyo and I recommend you go to TELL for advice first, whether you need therapy or medication.
