Koji-san was a WONDERFUL and WARM Sensei and taught us so much. He was very patient and never rushing. I loved how he interacted with everyone, asking us about our travels in Japan. The staff was so accommodating, providing a chair for my Mom. Tea and sweet were delicious! And my daughters really enjoyed their kimono experience. It was a magical day, as it snowed. Thank you for making this day very special.

A highlight of our trip to Japan and Kyoto in particular. The team at Camellia were kind and gracious. We chose the kimono fitting option and would highly recommend this as adding authenticity to the whole experience. Wondering around Kyoto’s old streets in kimonos was such fun! The ladies doing the kimono dressing were extremely skilful with both clothing and hair, and made us feel very special. My teenage daughter absolutely loved the whole experience. A special mention amongst this excellent team to the wonderful Kai, who took us through the tea ceremony. She was knowledgeable and graceful, and we now have a much greater appreciation of the nuances of the tea ceremony and the meaning of the rituals, and of matcha. It was beautifully done!

We very much enjoyed our tea ceremony and our Kimono rentals. The staff were very helpful when getting ready, and I was pleasantly surprised by the selection of Kimonos in larger/taller sizes. The staff were very friendly and personable.We enjoyed getting ready and having some time to take photos both before and after the tea ceremony as you have the rental kimono until 5pm.The tea ceremony was very enjoyable and peaceful. It is definitely a very calming experience in between the hustle and bustle of travel and we found the matcha to be of a very high quality. We would definitely recommend this experience!

Esperienza davvero fantastica! La cerimonia del tè è stata curata in ogni dettaglio e ci ha permesso di capire e apprezzare a fondo questa bellissima tradizione giapponese. Amazing experience. We went here for a kimono rental for the family and the tea ceremony. The price for the kimono rental was higher than most but it is worth. The kimono were gorgeous and generally much higher quality than most of the other tourists we saw. They had a good choice of men and women's and children kimono. The staff was friendly and very skilled. The tea ceremony was also lovely very nice introduction to the tea ceremony and the matcha was of very high quality. One of the highlights from our trip to Kyoto.

Amazing staff from start to finish. Foreigner friendly (English speaking staff).Highly, highly recommend booking the earliest kimono reservation for the day at 9am. You can have first pick from all the kimonos, There are no other customers, you can chat comfortably with staff in a relaxed atmosphere, and staff spend more time and attention on you and can listen to your requests.Price is a bit steep but for the service we received I would highly recommend Camellia to anyone wishing to do a kimono rental on Kyoto. Staff were very attentive from the start, took photos for us, re adjusted my kimono later in the day when it had come loose, provided us water and menthol body wipes to stave if the heat. They also genuinely took an interest in our trip and our lives which was quite nice. Thank you to the staff who helped me and my friend on our kimono day.We did the tea ceremony as well but I don't recommend this to everyone. It is specifically for those who enjoy more traditional cultural experiences as it was quite informative. The host however was skilled, friendly and answered all my questions so I was personally quite pleased with the experience.I love this store and urge everyone to visit this store at least for the kimonos.

We were lucky and we're able to get in without reservations after about a one hour wait. For 2,000 yen, it's definitely worth the experience. The staff spoke English with surprising excellence.They also seemed to take a keen interest in each person sharing the experience. (I mentioned being in Japan to celebrate and was caught off guard when I was asked what I'm celebrating... and then I didn't know if sharing that I'm nearly cancer-free was appropriate at the time... Foot in mouth, my fault).A lot of information was shared but it was easy to digest. It wasn't just informational, it was a whole lot of fun.Finding the place is a little bit difficult (small sign in an alley), but it's set back to ensure a quiet and tranquil experience. There's even a banner that says something about having an empty mind. Despite all of the learning, I walked out feeling refreshed, relaxed, and energized.Worth noting, they sell matcha and they have a list of recommended places to purchase... Just gotta ask.

Great way to experience the Japanese tea culture. It takes a while to find the shop as it is situated in a back alley away from the busy tourist street. Use Google maps as a guide. Turn into the residential alley in the middle of the busy street. ¥2,000 per person. You get to try your hand at making tea, too. Reserve ahead or you may have to wait for the 5pm slot or be disappointed.
