また、必ずうかがいますね!-----------I paid my first visit to “Tempura Chidori” in Tōjin, Saga City. While walking down this street, I’d noticed a pink building that looked like a traditional storehouse and was curious about it. When I looked it up, I found out it was a tempura restaurant converted from a storehouse. Plus, they serve small portions of delicious dishes—it was exactly the kind of place that suited me, so I’d been eager to check it out.Inside, the first floor features a counter where you can enjoy the chef’s freshly fried tempura right off the fryer. I was also shown the second floor, which has two private rooms that each seat eight people. These rooms exude the unique charm of a renovated traditional storehouse and are perfect for business entertaining or a leisurely family meal. There are three course options priced at 7,000 yen, 9,000 yen, and 11,000 yen; on this visit, we chose the middle-priced course. Here are the 18 dishes we enjoyed that day:I think it’s incredibly reasonable to get this much food for less than 10,000 yen (including tax). If you were to eat the same thing in Fukuoka, it would likely cost 1.5 to 2 times as much.“Today’s Menu”Jellyfish and cucumber with sesame dressingSashimi of fish trimmings and bonito<11 Tempura Dishes>Red-eyed snapperPrawnsOkraSwordfishAsparagusClamsYoung mackerelYoung lotus rootHatoshi (fried shrimp paste)Matsutake mushroomsYoung sweet potatoesHomemade squid shumaiEgg yolk rice bowlMiso soupPicklesMelon with Yamazaki sakeAs for my impressions, first of all, the sashimi was delicious. Not only were the ingredients top-notch, but the cross-sections were so beautifully cut that I was truly impressed. Then there was the tempura. From the red-eyed snapper to the matsutake mushrooms—a taste of autumn—and the clams, I was once again impressed by the chef’s generosity in using such high-quality ingredients so liberally at this price point! My wife kept saying, “This is delicious!” over and over, which was a little annoying, haha.To finish, we enjoyed the “grown-up style” of eating melon drizzled with Yamazaki whiskey. I hadn’t known about this way of eating it before.I heard the chef grew up at a Japanese restaurant but also studied Western cuisine, and his dishes skillfully blend Western elements throughout the Japanese flavors. At times, especially when I dipped the red sea bream in the sauce below, I even had the illusion that I was eating French cuisine.Wow! That was delicious!Thank you for the meal!I’ll definitely be back!
