Visiting Otsuchi was a powerful experience. It’s a town defined by its resilience rising from tragedy to rebuild with such grace and heart. The coastal views are peaceful and stunning, serving as a backdrop to a community that has shown immense strength.
I came here to learn about 2011 tsunami. It was very informative with real story from the witnesses and the aftermath recovery. The city has very stunning mountainous scenery and sea view. The place could be ideal for a quiet vacation after the guide tour.
Highly recommend. Our guide Mio was fluent in English, knowledgeable of the place, and very considerately responding to all our questions.A brilliant informative session on the culture and history of ōtsuchi, including the stories of the land and on the earthquake 3.11.
The Tsunami Education Tour offered an unparalleled opportunity to learn from someone who was engaged in the recovery and reconstruction efforts in Otsuchi and who seeks to continue that work by sharing the lessons learned from these devastating events. Mio guided us through a series of sites in the town that allowed us to see, up-close, the multi-layered effects of the tsunami, the complexities involved in rebuilding, and the resilience shown by Otsuchi residents in the years since. We appreciated Mio’s willingness to share those experiences, to answer our questions, and to give us this deeply affecting look into the events of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.
Has a model of the old city of Otsuchi before 2011 Tsunami. The tours are very informative and the staff members are great.

We had an informative and insightful tour. It changed the way I see the 3/11 and gave me a better understanding of the disaster. Sometimes it was difficult to hear stories but it helped me to think about lots of things and what I can do to mitigate disasters in my place as well. I do not want anyone to go through what they went through. I enjoy the way our guide Mio-san was explaining.
