Easy place to get a boat license, island style! If you are an english speaker you get a bunch of tests from the past couple of years to study and remember - but there is no lesson whatsoever, which would have been nice - considering the cost of 75.000 Yen. The boat lesson and final practical exam wa on the same day: Morning: Knots training (better practise before getting there) and a couple of driving maneuvers. That was not bad but the staff conducting the lesson was a chainsmoker and clearly was not motivated to be there with us, even tho he was friendly toward us.In the afternoon: the examiner came to the marina and asked us to repeat a couple of skills from the morning but clearly he wasn't on the same page as the teacher, it seemed the teacher had to explain to the examiner what to ask us! Even during the examination we made a couple of mistakes he basically said "be careful, don't do it that way" and we were done and past everything. Don't get me wrong I'm happy I got a boat license now but did I learn anything - nope. I will start learning now on my own boat now. Ah yea and the final theory exam was only a 60% total pass rate with each section only needing 50% to pass - basically I could have gone there without ever looking at the previous tests and without having any prior knowledge in boating, except being a scuba diver riding on boats so I know some terminology.What helped me was the app - Rules of the road, buoys lights and nav lights. This bundle cost about 1500 Yen and explains everything you need to know battling the questions written in engRish.
