I studied for 2 weeks at Lexis Kobe at the Foundation- and A1-Level.The city: Kobe gives you some big city vibes. There is a lot to see and do in a relatively small area. Being one of the first cities to open up to foreign traders you can find a lot of european influences without losing the japanese flair. Unlike Tokyo, Kobe feels more relaxed and the general English level is low. So if you are coming to learn Japanese, you will get a lot of exposure.The school: From my experience at Lexis Kobe, I think that it can be the right choice to learn Japanese IF you want to learn the language for daily conversation and travel. In our classes we learned a lot of sentence structures in order to enable basic phrase-building. As described in other comments you will speak a lot during the lessons. I found this method to be helpful in getting accostumed to the language and breaking the barrier of talking to natives. The teachers structure their curriculum using one of the Marugoto textbooks and know enough English to help you with difficulties. I like that this school diversifies itself with this approach.IF you are looking for a more traditional or academic oriented language course, then I suggest registering for another school. Just be clear on what your goals are.That said, I left with the feeling of having improved my conversation skills and wanting to continue my studies. I did a basic Japanese course (A0) after learning with Duolingo until level 12. The course highly increased my speaking, listening and writing skills.The learning atmosphere can be quite good but is depending on the other students. In general it is way more motivating to learn with others than alone.You mask them about the course cycles (3 weeks / 6 weeks) and choose your stay based on this if you prefer a smooth start! Elsewhiles it can be quite steep.It is highly recommended to know hiragana already before starting a beginners course. Makes it easier to understand and follow. The A0 course teaches you hiragana in first week and second week katakana. Alongside you learn basic grammar and vocabulary.After a successful three week A0 course you can talk about place, time and direction. Furthermore you can have basic conversations about familiy, living situation, food/drinks and hobbies.
I recently studied at Lexis Japan in Kobe and greatly enjoyed my time there. My Japanese improved noticeably to a level that allowed me to communicate effectively with my teacher and with cashiers in shops. The teachers were friendly and approachable, which made the entire learning environment both effective and enjoyable. I would highly recommend Lexis to anyone looking to learn Japanese.
Ive done short study stays at three Japanese schools noz and Lexis qas by far the best. Teachers are very professional, theres great (English language) support at front desk, and I learnes lots. Kobe is a much better place to study than Tokyo, at least for short stays.

Having completed the intensive Japanese course I honestly have nothing but positive things to say regarding my time at Lexis Japan. The instructors created an environment conducive to learning not only the language, but innumerable aspects of Japanese culture. The atmosphere around the school was always warm, inviting, and through the afternoon activities I was able to quickly make friends and learn more about Kobe. My language skills improved dramatically and I was able to enjoy my time in Japan to the utmost thanks to Lexis Japan. Highly recommend.集中日本語コース終了した僕はレクシスジャパンでの時間について正直に言って良い事しかありません。先生たちは言語だけではなく日本文化の無数の側面を学ぶのに役立つ環境を提供してくれました。学校周辺の雰囲気はいつも暖かく魅力的でした。午後の活動を通して僕はすぐに友達を作り神戸についてもっと知ることができました。僕は語学力は劇的に向上しレクシスジャパンのおかげで日本での時間を最大限に楽しむことができました。強く勧めします。
日本語コースのオーストラリアやヨーロッパの学生とついおしゃべりに夢中になり、レッスン以外の時間も楽しく時間を過ごしています。英語のレッスンで習ったことが自然と口から出てくることが多くなりました。おしゃべりに終わってしまう英会話ではなく、90分みっちりの英語レッスンに目標に達成できる満足感と結果があります。色々な国の学生達とカラオケやお茶をたてるアクティビティに一緒に参加できるのは、まるで本当に留学しているようです！

周辺のオススメ
Die Schule ist sehr zentral gelegen und gut zu erreichen. Allerdings ist das finden etwas schwierig, da die Beschriftung am Gebäude sehr dezent ist. Die Räumlichkeiten sind sehr grosszügig und hell. Wenn ich mich recht erinnere, gibt es sieben Unterrichtszimmer, sowie einen Aufenthaltraum. Leider ist die Infrastruktur nicht sehr gepflegt. Ich war im Winter für 6 Wochen in dieser Schule und fast die ganze Zeit hindurch fehlte auf der Toilette Papier zum trocknen der Hände. Die Abfalleimer im Aufentahltsraum weren meist schon morgens überfüllt und das heisse Wasser für den Tee, leer. Auch wirkte der Aufenthaltsraum sehr unordentlich und unaufgeräumt. Jeden Morgen, ich kam meist etwa 15 Minuten vor Schulbeginn, musste ich die Heizung im Zimmer einschalten, weil es wirklich A-Kalt war. Offenbar ist niemand für den Unterhalt verantwortlich.Mein Unterricht war Täglich von 09:00 - 12:15. Dabei wechselten die Lehrer fast täglich. Für mich kein Problem. Manche Lehrer waren hervorragend, andere eher nicht. Aber durch diesen täglichen Wechsel, war das nicht so tragisch. Die Infrastruktur im Klassenraum selbst war sehr speziell. Unterschiedliche Tische mit unterschiedlicher Arbeitshöhe oder das fehlen einer Garderobe, haben mich jetzt nicht gerade begeistert. Was ich aber sehr kritisiere sind die Preise. Vor allem für das Unterrichtsmaterial. Ich bekam ein lehrbuch und ein paar sehr schlecht kopierte Blätter. Dafür habe ich fast 100 Euro hingeblättert. Für das was ich erhalten habe, eine bodenlose Frechheit. Ich habe desswegen auch bei der Schule reklamiert, aber nur eine lauwarme Erklärung erhalten.Alles in allem ist Lexis eine sehr durchschnittliche Schule. Einige Lehrer waren wirklich hervorragend und ich habe mich mit ihnen auch sehr gut verstanden. Die Infrastruktur und die persönliche Betreung hingegen ist mangelhaft.Mein fazit. Für mich ist Lexis eine sehr teure Schule mit schmuddeliger Infrastruktur. Ich kann diese Sprachschule nicht empfehlen.
