On a wonderfully sunny day, we had a quick interaction with the shop owner and a local inhabitant of this quaint village. After we bought some goods for our lunch and were about to head out, the old lady, one of the owners, hurried after us and called out. I assumed we had left something behind at the shop, but she surprised us with taiyaki, a fish-shaped ice cream sandwich. It was a really sweet gesture. Even though we didn’t understand each other, I sensed her warmth and kindness.
