一条戻り橋に近いこの地は、古くは大峰野と呼ばれ、平安時代には、大峰寺と称する寺院がありました。大峰寺は、大峰殿とも呼ばれ、大和国(奈良県)吉野の大峰山の名を採った山伏修験者の道場で、当時は、広い寺域に幾つかの坊舎が建てられ、多くの修験者で賑わったと伝えられる。しかし、その後、寺は荒廃し、現在では、石塔を残すのみとなっている。 This area near Ichijo Modoribashi was called Omineno in ancient times, and in the Heian period, there was a temple called Omineji.
