こんにゃく閻魔様が祀られている浄土宗のお寺。木造本堂の扁額は山号の智相山。こちらの閻魔様は眼病にご利益があり、昔は願いが成就したあかつきに、お礼にこんにゃくをお供えしたそうですよ。

文京区の源覚寺に「こんにゃくゑんま」は眼病にご利益があるという。こちらにあるこんにゃく閻魔はそれにあやかったのかもしれない。どちらも浄土宗寺院である。また、蒟蒻閻魔という内弁慶の同じ意味の表現があるそうだ。江戸の庶民には身近な存在だったのだろう。
境内に、港区の指定文化財に選定されている「こんにゃく閻魔」と呼ばれる石の閻魔様が祀られています。関東大震災の時に火をかぶったためお顔が丸くなっています。江戸時代に眼病の方がそっと隠れて願掛けをし、治るとお礼にこんにゃくを副えるといった風習があったそうです。今でも、ガラスの引き戸越しに閻魔さまのお顔を拝見できます。
広くない境内に、菩薩像や地蔵像があり、また港区文化財の石造閻魔王像（こんにゃく閻魔）もガラス越しですが見ることができます。

周辺のオススメ
港区虎ノ門。1611年創建。本尊は阿弥陀如来。最初の寺名は智相院。1928年に随教院と合併して今の寺名になりました。このお寺は、こんにゃく閻魔(石造閻魔大王像)が有名で、港区指定文化財になっています。こんにゃく閻魔とは、眼病の治癒にご利益があるとされ、願いが成就した人がそのお礼にこんにゃくをお供えするという習わしがあったことからそう呼ばれるようになりました。小石川の源覚寺にも同様のこんにゃく閻魔があります。虎ノ門の方は、今はこんにゃくをお供えする習わしがなくなってしまったようですが、当時の人々の民間信仰を知るうえで重要な文化財となっています。虎ノ門は現在はオフィス街となっていますが、江戸時代は西久保と呼ばれ、武家地・寺社地でした。このお寺や近隣の愛宕神社などに、今もその時代の面影を残しています。
