As a lover of all things stationary this is such a unique and lovely experience! Hiro and Miwako are very kind and so knowledgeable. They have created a process that is easy to follow, very fun and interactive. The final product is beautiful and it’s a nice souvenir to take home. I really enjoyed the info video explaining the whole washi paper making process; from harvest to final product. Their shop is also offers a variety of very beautifully crafted washi paper products and all other kinds of stationary. I’m so glad I came across this experience, would definitely recommend!
Just go ahead and book your paper- and postcard-making class now.This is the sweet spot of visitor experiences in Japan: educational, focused on heritage craftsmanship, fun, creative, appropriate for everyone from elementary school on up, and you end up with truly lovely (and useful!) souvenirs.The instruction is in English or Japanese. My husband booked this as a birthday gift for me and we both had a fantastic time. The experience is well-paced, they’re clearly experts in both paper making and teaching beginners how to get started, and the actual work of paper making is very tactile, satisfying, and manageable for a beginner to attempt.Really, I would do this every day. 100/10.
Had an incredible experience today making traditional Japanese washi paper, postcards and lanterns at this nearly century-old shop in Kyoto. If you’re visiting, you have to check out Kamitowa!Seeing how this beautiful paper is made and then getting to try it ourselves was wonderful, and the instructors Miwako-san and Junko-san were SO HELPFUL. Even though we didn’t have any experience, they made it interesting, simple and fun. If you’re in Kyoto, you absolutely should not miss this. It’s the best 90 minutes you’ll spend in the city. We will definitely be back to do this again!We did this as a couple, but a family with elementary school-age children joined us and everyone had fun and made something lovely.
Hice un taller de washi para armar una libreta, fue increíble la experiencia. Me encantó.Los profesores un 7. Muy amorosos. Compartieron sus conocimientos, técnicas, con mucha dedicación y paciencia.Aprender de esta técnica artesanal japonesa y de todo el proceso fue maravilloso🤍
We did the paper making experience while in Kyoto, and it was definitely a highlight! Hiro-san and his assistant Junko were professional and kind, and they were able to add the fourth member of our group when we weren’t able to pay for it online. The reservation experience on the website could be a little tricky when booking for more than one person, but they were so gracious, and we all had a wonderful time.The space inside is small, but they have seats with storage. There is calm music playing, which added to the ambience, and the explanatory video that we watched was so fascinating. I highly recommend their products and taking advantage of the papermaking experience. It makes for a truly unique souvenir to bring home!
Papeterie avec du papier traditionnel qui propose des ateliers de création de son propre papier. On peut en faire des cartes ou des lampes et c’est magnifique !Les gérants sont un couple adorable qui nous explique avec passion leur art traditionnel ! Tout était parfait, c’est vraiment une activité qu’on a adoré ! Ils parlent aussi anglais, ce qui rend l’échange plus fluide.

自分だけの御朱印帳。和紙選びから出来上がりまで楽しい時間です。親子でも、仲間同士でも笑顔で過ごせる空間です。

Beautiful washi paper products, exquisitely made by the family, who also hold paper making workshops that are wonderful. A nice collection of notebooks, journals, paper lamp kits, envelopes and more. Miwa and Hero are warm and welcoming.
