淀姫神社の特徴
夜訪れると姫の悲鳴や足音が聞こえる肝試しに最適な神社、
海辺の集落の細い路地にひっそりと佇む小さな神社、
昔亡くなった姫の霊が宿ると伝わる神秘的な場所、
I went to visit this shrine. It a lovely little shrine, which seems like not many people visit. I showed respect when entering and it felt like the surrounding sounds changed the further I went up. I stopped at the very too and listened around and felt nervous for some reason. Ngl it was quite spooky and it isn't even October yet. One day I'll have the courage to enter it all the way to pay all the respects.
夜に2人で肝試し感覚で淀姫神社に行った時女の人のキャーと言う悲鳴が聞こえ足音もしたこれは昔亡くなった姫の悲鳴なのかもしれない。
人の少ない小さな神社。境内周辺でかつては黒曜石が採取できたらしい。九州の遺跡から発掘される黒曜石の石器がここで採取できる黒曜石と同じ成分の場合は淀姫型黒曜石と呼ばれる。現在は全く黒曜石は見当たらない。なお、ここで採取できた黒曜石は針尾島の牛岳から噴出したものであることが判明している。針尾島から淀姫神社までどのように運ばれてきたのか、ある人は海岸段丘の礫層からだと、またある人は麓の軽石凝灰岩に含まれる礫だという。私はどちらも観察したが黒曜石は見あたらなかった。
海辺の集落の細い路地に入ったところにある神社。主祭神は豊玉姫。ここからは早岐瀬戸の入口にあたる穏やかな海面が望めます。地形から見て、昔は鳥居のところが波打ち際だったと思われます。
寂れた漁村の路地を進むと、唐突に石造りの鳥居が現れる。かつて村の鎮守であったのだろうか。今は人影もなく、ひっそりとしている。鳥井脇の、防空壕にも見える横穴が不気味である。何やら聞こえる人の声に釣られて境内脇の細い坂道を抜けると、真上の公園のグラウンドに出る。
どこにでもある無人の神社。

周辺のオススメ
Gotta love your local shrine<3You can go for a nice walk through this shrine's groinds as Higashihama park is just a short forest path uphill of the shrine, and there is a sort of sea-wall downhill on the other side of the lowest Tori. By the water you can see the bay (and sleeping cats). When the tide is low, you can walk by the water and see lots of little crabs among the rocks. Higashihama park has good parking and a beautiful view of Sasebo as well. It is a residential area good for dog walks or hanami.
