They offer probably the best home made carry-out Japanese dish in town. With a few exceptions on the shelf, foods are carefully handmade by the store owner himself. If you are fan of pickled fish, e.g. kohada, mamakari, this is the place to buy. Pickled fish are their signature products, and for a reasonable price, you'll get the equivalent of what high-end sushi restaurants in Ginza or Akasaka would offer over a sushi counter.My personal favorite is their original "shiso anzu" (apricot with red perilla - photo attached below), which looks like "ume boshi" (pickled plum) but tastes totally different. Local Japanese people also often get confused between these two, but shiso anzu is sweet and tangy, while ume boshi is salty and sour.The beauty of the original shiso anzu, offered in this mom-and-pop store, is that they are not too sweet. For those who are used to high-fructose sweets, it might taste blunt. However, for those who loves delicate sweets, their shiso anzu which maintains the original fruity aroma of the ingredient apricot, may find something that would hit your chords. I often enjoy this together with whisky or white wine.Ume boshi often does not need to be refrigerated, but shiso anzu does, so make sure to keep it in a fridge.Please also note that this store only accept cash, so don't forget to bring 1,000 yen bills with you.
