Needs 10 stars not 5! Amazing place to reach after day 1 on Kumano Kodo hike. Mahito our host was amazing and prepared the most wonderful, dinner, breakfast & lunch (collect when passing by his house on the hike next day). Everything you need and more, comfy bedding, wonderful bath to soak in and beautiful location. Would love to return for longer.

Suzushiro Rental house was a wonderful place to stay on our first night and set the bar high - dinner was absolutely one of the best Japanese meals we have ever eaten. Breakfast was great too. Hospitality and comfort made it such a wonderful experience.

I need more stars to rate Suzushiro. I regret we could only stay one night on our Komodo Kodo adventure. The accommodation was wonderful however the dinner provided was just outstanding, with breakfast not far behind. Thank you!

A fantastic cottage in Takahara on the Kumano Kodo. Brilliant views from the windows and deck. Fully equipped, very comfortable and warm on a chilly night. Family owned and operated. Spectacular meals delivered by our host. Definitely recommend, a wonderful experience.

After the steep uphill climb, it was so nice to arrive at the cabin with all amenities you could want. We were greeted by the owner who showed us around.The bath is modern and amazing (and I do not take baths). It has a washing machine, too.He brought us a multi-course dinner that was delicious and one best our entire trip. And breakfast was very good ,too.The futons had extra padding and were more comfortable than a western bed. Would love to stay again.

After a long day of hiking in the heat. Mahito greeted us with such kindness. We were welcomed into the accomodation, shown around and then left to enjoy the view. Later that night we were amazing by a freshly cooked dinner delivered to the cabin. Breakfast and lunch were provided for continuing our Kumano Kodo hike the next day which was much appreciated. Would greatly recommend a stay here. Very special.

This was our first stay on the Kumano Kodo and it was wonderful. We had the cottage that Mahito had built in the rice field from local cedar all to ourselves. Later he and brought us our evening meal which was also really special. If I could go back to just one spot in Kii peninsula this would be it.熊野古道での初めての滞在でしたが、素晴らしかったです。真人さんが地元杉の田んぼに建てたコテージを独り占め。後で彼と私たちの夕食も本当に特別なものを持ってきてくれました。紀伊半島の1か所だけに戻れるとしたらここだ。

Wonderful little cottage w garden to yourself with mazing view.One of the bset guest house I ever stayed. If you are in Kumano area, you gotb to stay this place to enojoy the beauty of Japanese country side.Cottage is so clean and neat! 本当に素晴らしいゲストハウスでした。庭もあって、夜は星を、朝は霧を楽しめました。部屋はとても快適で新しくて、清潔で、すべてが便利でした。お風呂もあります。キッチンもありました。近くのスーパーで買い物をして、部屋で食べました。また、ぜひ、泊まりたいです。子供も大喜びでした。オーナーの方も親切でした。

This gem of a guest house was a highlight of our month long trip across Japan. The food was absolutely delicious, so pay the extra fee for the in house meal. We were lucky and were able to watch the clouds roll over the mountains that day as well. The pics here do not do the view justice. It was nothing short of spectacular. We sat on the deck in our yukata, listened to the sound of frogs, and watched the sun set. Additionally, when we left a cell phone charger the man who ran the house drove to the next town and visited each of the guest houses in that town until he found us. It blew us away. 5 stars is not enough.

This is the BEST place we stayed in Japan (been 3 times!). If you go to walk the Kumano, walk it backwards (we did Koyasan- Hongu- Takahara) and stay here for at least 2 nights. We will come back to stay again for sure. The hosts (young family) are AMAZING, they will help you with all you need. You will have the cottage to yourself, so clean and with all you need (cook/ tea/ read...etc.). Gorgeous views and you'll sleep like a baby. Highly recommended! (the kind of place you want to keep selfishly to yourself).

What a fantastic surprise it was to discover this place. Its a charming mountain lodge run by a young family. We had the place all to ourselves and our hosts were very attentive to anything we needed. Slept really well and woke up to a stunning view of the valley. If you're passing through, stay here.
