平安京朱雀大路跡 銘板の特徴
平安京朱雀大路は南北に4キロ延びる重要な街道です。

平安京朱雀大路跡銘板：平安京の朱雀大路は，朱雀門から羅城門まで，南北に4キロメートルにわたって延びる，平安京のメインストリートである。幅は84メートルほどあり，並木として柳が植えられていた。本来，朱雀大路が都の中心とされていたが，右京域の衰退により中心から外れたため，平安時代を通じて徐々に荒廃・縮小していった。加えて，朱雀門以北の内野(旧大内裏)には道が北進していき，鎌倉時代には「千本通」と呼ばれるようになる。 この地は，昭和50年(1975)に発掘調査が行われ，初めて朱雀大路の痕跡が確認された場所である。建立年 1975年建立者 京都市寸 法 高68×幅111×奥行97cm碑 文[北]平安京朱雀大路跡朱雀大路は、平安京の朱雀門から南へ羅城門まで、平安京の中心を南北約4kmにわたって走る主要大路である。道路の幅は28丈(約84m)をはかり、両側には溝、犬走、垣が設けられ、さらに柳の並木がこの大路に色どりを添えていたといわれる。朱雀大路の両わきには、貴族の邸宅や役所の建物などがたちならび、迎賓館としての東、西鴻臚館や天皇家別邸である朱雀院などもそこに建てられていた。この大規模な道路も、平安後期ごろから無用の長物と化して、鎌倉以後、急速にその機能を失い、荒廃していった。この朱雀大路の痕跡をとどめるのが、現在の千本通りである。現在地は昭和50年夏、秋の発掘調査によって、朱雀大路の一角が発見された地点である。ここでは、平安京楊梅小路と朱雀大路の交差点を中心に、朱雀大路東側溝が延長120mにわたって検出され、はじめて朱雀大路の正確な位置が確認されたのである。昭和53年9月1日 京都市Heiankyo Suzaku-oji Ruins Nameplate:Suzaku-oji Street in Heian-kyo is the main street of Heian-kyo, stretching 4 kilometers north-south from Suzaku-mon Gate to Rajo-mon Gate. 奈良の平城京の朱雀大路はかなりの部分が復原され威容が感じられるが、京都のそれはあまりに無残である。あの巨大な朱雀大路はどこへ行ったか？全く何もない。あるのは銘板だけ。今は千本通を歩き、個人個人が想像するだけの世界になってしまった。
うーん、本当に碑だけ。あまりにも遠過ぎたか、面影もないですね。ある意味碑が設置されてるのが凄いかも。
