Free pick-up from station, almost impossible to find on your own, but great place. Traditional tatami rooms, simple but elegant & comfortable. Deep in Nara countryside, near Muro-ji. Stayed 4 nights, the (requested) vegetarian breakfast got better & better each day! Owner's son speaks fair english and is more than helpful. I loved it here, would go back in a heart-beat.
First impression was: too far from everywhere... But as we entered the house, the room, saw around the village, everything changed.||FIrstly: room was as traditional as it gets. Tatami floor, futon beds, wood+paper walls, some items in the room, the full package. ||Second: food was also traditional, breakfast prepared by a sweet lady included in the price, dinner for extra money (but worth every yen).||Most important: the niceness of the hosts, caring about us and lots of activities for a boy (7yo), teaching how to make a sushi, learning Hiragana...||The surroundings: peaceful village, no traffic, rice fields, etc. We heard some strange noise one night; the host said it is probably deer!!|| ||Downsides: it is far from Osaka (1h20min) and even farther from Kyoto so it is not good base to wander around those cities. We didn't take that into consideration when booking. Upside from that: Nara is much closer, and definitely a city to visit. In the nearby, there is Akame Shijuhachi Waterfall, really close, and Muro-ji temple, very underrated sites, off the beaten path.||One more issue: as this is a japanese house, there are thin wooden/glass/paper walls and the temperature inside is not much higher than the outside. There is an A/C with heating, but it just can't warm up the complete room. This is the only issue if you plan to visit when we were, beginning of April. We were literally freezing before going to bed and during showers. But none of the houses around that have chimneys and are not insulated like where I come from (Europe), so I don't understand how it is when there are temperatures below 0 celsius.||||Final thought: we have seen much in our travels, but nothing will stay as permanently as that house in the woods. Thank You, very kind hostess.
This place was located on hills and difficult to reach if you are a single traveller going by train or bike. Luckily, they have a van and pick up from the closest stations and when you are over, they can also drop you off. That elder lady was polite and you can negotiate with her by using Google Translate ;)
A gem. A family home among serene hills. Friendly owners who do their very best for the guests. The food was great both at dinner and breakfast - simple, tasty, and filling.||It is really nothing fancy and everything is pretty basic. Exactly what you need, imho, after a downtown Tokyo (or even Kyoto) hotel.||The facilities are shared. They are a bit crude and not very new, but everything is clean and functioning properly. There are laundry machines (washer + dryer) and all the soaps and shampoos you need.||We only stayed overnight, but if you have time to spend, the area has tons of paths and walks through the hills. You can reach the 48 waterfalls path from the B&B - about 3 miles.||It is a bit hard to find, as the Google Maps takes you close, but not all the way. The owner noticed us circling around in the car and came down to meet us. If you are coming by train, they will pick you up from the station 10 mins away.||Take a look at the pictures I've added.
Very homely atmosphere, helpful and friendly owners, comfortable room, excellent food... everything was perfect, really. The place is a few kilometers from the nearest railway station, but it doesn't matter, as the owners provide free pick up. They helped me to get to some place of interest too. The views around are magnificent. I was so lucky to find this place, it's truly unique.
