So we randomly walked into this place and there was an absolutely intense karaoke party going on a Friday night. So good we came back for round 2 on Saturday. Less than $100 AUD to feast and drink for 3 people.
Awesome place! Tiny and friendly with delicious food and cold beer and absolutely hectic karaoke night on Fridays. Wish I had a local like this!
First off, the establishment seats a total of 8-10 at a single counter, and so we took up nearly half the place. Our party of 4 had the most enjoyable time meeting and struggling to communicate with the handful of local residents that came for a drink and some good, homemade favorites! Among the dishes we sampled: taco (not tako) rice, chicken wings, chicken namban, yakisoba, oden, "extremely spicy" sausage, fresh pineapple and tsukemono. We thought we were ordering tako (octopus) rice, but when it arrived we realized our mistake. The friendly and talkative proprietor, Asato san, explained she was from Okinawa, which explained the taco rice. It's a thing there. Oden was something unfamiliar to us but quite good. A hearty soup with chicken, vegetables, kamaboko (fish cake), other unidentifiable things.If you are looking for good local food and a hospitable, cultural experience, find this out-of-the-way gem!
