Located about 15 minutes walking distance to the Kurogane Knife-making Workshop, the Senba Guesthouse offers a great opportunity to stay at a traditional Japanese inn overlooking the Shimanto river and surrounding forests that the Kochi region has to offer. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included per night by the inn’s owner, Hiro-san. Hiro-san is an excellent host with a kind heart. The three of us felt at home during our stay even considering the language and cultural barriers. During our last night, we shared stories and had conversations over numerous drinks using translator apps. It was a blast and easily a highlight of our entire first trip to Japan.
This place is an amazing place to stay if you are attending the knife making workshop. The price includes 3 homecooked meals per day and he will even give you a bento to the workshop. You will never need food and Hiro is a great drinking partner !
I stayed here for six nights while attending a tamahagane making course at the nearby Workshop Kurogane. The owner, Hiro san, was a delight. He made us breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day. The lunch was delivered each day to the workshop. Each meal was different and quite filling. The room was spacious and very traditional.
This little inn is run by Hiro San, who has been running it for over 25 years, and he is the kindest and most welcoming host we encountered in Japan. We stayed at this inn for two nights as we were doing a knife making course . Nobu San, the blacksmith, organised our stay here. The rooms are upstairs, quite steep stairs, on the second floor ( just be careful if you stay after dinner to have one or many drinks with Hiro San). The room is a traditional room with tatami mats and roll out mattresses and are extremely warm and comfortable. The inn has separate bathrooms and toilets downstairs and are shared but that did not bother us as there was only one other couple staying at the time.||||We did not speak Japanese and our host Hiro San did not speak English but that did not take away from communication and the warm connection we felt. The inn is quite eclectic and adds to the charm of the space.||||Hiro San prepared our dinner, breakfast and lunch. His cooking was amazing and he used locally sourced produce. We tried food that we would not have otherwise had the chance to experience. He invited us to have a drink with him and his friends. My husband stayed with them for a few hours sharing drinks, stories and friendship all through google translate.||||The view of the Shimanto River from our room was just beautiful. We took a walk down to the river as it was literally just outside our door.||||We were sad to leave Hiro San and his hospitality and this lovely little inn. We would highly recommend staying here to enjoy the local, countryside charm and make new friends. We will continue to stay in touch with Hiro San and hope to return one day.
四万十川中流域である口屋内にある民宿。||ここからの観光は市内は勿論のこと、上流に向けば十和やよって西土佐などの大型道の駅もある。ここを拠点とし、四万十川を満喫できるだろう。||近くで四万十川くだりの船やカヌーに乗ることも出来る場所もある。||民宿は四万十川と黒尊川の合流点に位置しており、黒尊川も透明度の高い清流となっている。秋になれば素晴らしい紅葉が見れる。||||部屋からは四万十川の見える部屋もある。||夕暮れ時の四万十川は絶景です。
ご飯も高知ならではの食事が沢山出て美味しかった。町まで行かないと色々食べられないかと思ったが夕飯で出してくれて大満足です。民宿の方々がとても温かく迎えてくださって楽しい高知旅行になりました。
沈下橋を目前に見れる民宿。旬の料理の数々がとても美味しいです。ご主人も温かく酒飲みな方で、一緒に飲む酒はたまらなく楽しい。俺的【日本一の民宿】で、いつも せんばさんに行く事を妄想して仕事を頑張ってます。
リニューアル改装して、きれいです!!女将の手料理がおすすめです!
四万十川でカヌー下りをするときに利用しました。田舎の民宿ですか居心地は良かったです。
