We booked our experience through Klook, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. It was also really easy to find—we just Ubered straight to the location and had no trouble getting there. Our sensei was incredibly kind and understanding. We ran into issues checking into our hotel that morning and we were going to arrive about 30 minutes late. I immediately let him know on WhatsApp and apologized, but he immediately put us at ease and reassured us that it was completely fine.Even with less time, he still gave us the full experience. We changed into samurai uniforms, learned proper stances, how to swing, how to sheath the sword, and even got to slice our own bamboo at the end. It was so much fun and immersive. He speaks good English, was super friendly, and let us take photos and videos whenever we wanted. He also take pictures for you on a nice camera and emails it to you as a free keepsake! After the session, we asked him for seafood recommendations in Osaka—he suggested a spot that turned out to be amazing. If you’re in Osaka and want to try something unique and memorable, I highly recommend Samurai Honor. It’s absolutely worth it!
Great experience at Samurai Honor for all our family (including 3 kids ages 20+), including training with real metal swords and actually cutting a dummy from Bamboo by each participants. The Sansai is very authentic and actually teaches several battle moves. He speaks only Japanese but there is a lovely translator/host that works with him and makes the experience friendly for foreigners. This was an exciting closing highlight for our family tour to Japan and really worth it. Highly recomened.
I had an unforgettable katana session at Samurai Honor during my visit to Osaka. The sensei was incredible — skilled, patient, and truly passionate. He explained everything clearly and made the whole experience both fun and authentic.Wearing the traditional outfit and learning real techniques made me feel like I had stepped back in time. It’s a unique experience I’d highly recommend to anyone visiting Osaka!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 — A Deeply Memorable ExperienceOur visit to Samurai Honor in Osaka was truly one of the highlights of our entire trip to Japan. The experience was not just about dressing up or taking photos—it was an immersive, hands-on lesson in Japanese culture, tradition, and philosophy, all led by incredibly kind and knowledgeable instructors. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted by the owner and facilitator, whose English was excellent and whose enthusiasm was contagious. He clearly loves sharing the history and etiquette of the samurai, and his deep knowledge made the whole experience feel so authenticWe participated in a four part experience1. Sword Practice and CuttingWe began by donning samurai robes and learning how to properly hold, strike, and carry a sword. After practicing with dulled blades, we were given a real katana and a bamboo? target to test our skills. Cutting through it cleanly was incredibly satisfying, and our instructor was right there cheering us on and capturing great action shots.2. Japanese CalligraphyNext, we explored traditional calligraphy. Each of us chose a kanji character that had special meaning. My wife chose “love” and I chose “dragon.” Bother were difficult characters! After practicing with brushes on smaller sheets, we each created a large 4-foot canvas version to take home. The process was meditative and fun, and the instructors again took some beautiful photos of us working.3. Samurai Armor ExperienceThen came one of the most visually striking moments: dressing in authentic samurai armor. I wore a deep blue set while my wife wore a brilliant orange one. The instructors explained how each helmet design identified individual samurai on the battlefield, and that the more elaborate ones reflected wealth and status. Despite being armor, the suits were surprisingly light. We definitely got some incredible photos here!4. Traditional Tea CeremonyFinally, we took part in a serene tea ceremony. We learned how to whisk matcha with bamboo (I think) instrument and serve it to one another. It was a peaceful, grounding way to end the day. Before we left, we were surprised with a thoughtful handmade gift bag decorated with our calligraphy characters—“dragon” and “love”—along with the date and the name of the dojo. They even printed some of the professional photos they had taken for us to take home. 10/10 a must do when visiting Osaka!
The samurai experience was one of the happiest moments of my trip to Japan. I loved wielding the katana and cutting through the targets placed by Ray. Ray is an awesome and patient teacher who taught me and my mom several techniques and postures before proceeding to attacking the targets. The place felt totally comfortable and Ray gave us water multiple times as we came in tired. We were completely satisfied with the experience and with Ray as a guide and a teacher. Totally recommended.
During my two weeks in Japan, this was my favorite activity. Learning Japanese calligraphy was so calming and peaceful. The teacher was calm, patient, and reassuring. We were also dressed in traditional Japanese kimonos. It was our first time wearing them and I just enjoyed it so much. I didn't want to take it off. I just can't wait to go back to the US and learn more Japanese calligraphy. It was amazing.
I had an amazing experience here at Samurai Honour! I've loved samurai traditions and culture for a long time and it was my first time dressing and using a real sword. The sensei is very professional and experienced, gave good advice about technique and was patient. I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in samurai, cutting mats, and swordsmanship. Great experience, worth going to Osaka just for this, I'm very appreciative 🙏🏼
This was the most wonderful experience we ever had at Osaka. We booked the Honor plan, which consist of Calligraphy lesson, Tea ceremony, Sword practice and Samurai Armor experience.Everything was fun and encouraging. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Kaori-sensei shares great explanation about the philosophy and history, Rei-sensei teaches sword moves that are easy to understand for those who are in-experienced and Hiro-san is very active in helping in all aspects. Please forgive us if we misspell the name. The last part was the experience of being a celebrity by wearing the samurai armor at Osaka castle.Truly a memorable experience.
Amazing time at Samurai Honor, the senseis and photographer/translator really helped us enjoy this experience. My girlfriend and I had so much fun, we learned a lot, and we got great photos/videos that are genuine professional quality. For many, this would be a once in a lifetime experience that I would highly recommend.Although for me, I enjoyed so much that I have to go back again in the future!

The best activity I did during my stay in Osaka! I went there with my wife, and our sensei was amazing. We learned various katana techniques, along with clear explanations about samurai culture. The sensei creates a great atmosphere and is very skilled at teaching. The assistant was extremely kind and took some beautiful photos. Together, they made it a truly wonderful experience.I highly recommend it!!!どうもありがとう。
