聖護院門跡 山門の特徴
聖護院門跡の山門は格式があり、重厚な印象を与えます。
大文字山を背にした荘厳な景観が訪れる人々を圧倒します。
隣の八つ橋の西尾さんから漂うニッキの香りが心地よいです。
重厚な山門ですね。
山門の築地塀には五本筋があり、格式の高さが伺えます。ちなみに、以前の築地塀は四本筋又は無筋でしたが、五本筋に復活していました（前回の老朽化の改修工事で業者のミスにより四本筋になり、その後、筋を消して無筋に。他の方の写真を見るとわかりますよ）。
石碑：聖護院旧仮皇居聖護院は，天台宗寺門派の門跡寺院であったが，現在は本山修験宗の総本山である。増誉(1032～1116)が草創し，岩倉長谷にあって常光寺と称したが，寛治年間(1087～94)にこの地へ移り，聖護院と改めた。後白河皇子静恵法親王(1164～1203)が入寺してのち，宮門跡となる。天明8(1788)年正月の大火では，聖護院が光格天皇(1748～1840)の仮御所となり，嘉永7(1854)年4月の大火では，孝明天皇(1831～66)と皇子祐宮(明治天皇，1852～1912)の仮御所となった。この石標は仮皇居聖護院を示すものである。昭和10年に史蹟名勝天然紀念物保存法による史蹟に指定され，現在は「聖護院旧仮皇居」として国指定史跡。建立年 1937年建立者寸 法 高200×幅30×奥行31cm碑 文[南] 史蹟聖護院旧仮皇居[東] 昭和十二年五月建設[西] 史蹟名勝天然紀念物保存法ニ依リ昭和十年十二月文部大臣指定（京都歴史資料館：いしぶみデータベースより）Stone monument:Shogoin Former Temporary Imperial PalaceShogoin used to be a monzeki temple of the Jimon school of the Tendai sect, but is now the head temple of the Shugen sect. Founded by Zoyo (1032-1116), it was located in Iwakura Hase and was called Joko-ji, but during the Kanji era (1087-94) it was moved to this location and renamed Shogo-in. After Prince Goshirakawa Prince Shizue (1164-1203) entered the temple, it became a shrine monzeki.During the New Year's fire in 1788, Shogoin became the temporary residence of Emperor Kokaku (1748-1840), and during the April fire in Kaei 7 (1854), Emperor Komei (1831-66) and Prince Yunomiya It became the temporary imperial residence of Emperor Meiji (1852-1912). This stone marker indicates the Temporary Imperial Palace Shogoin.
